In 1978, I was in Grade 2 and my two favourite teams were the New York Islanders and the Toronto Maple Leafs. As a child, this was the first playoff series that I vividly remember. Every morning at school, all my friends and I would excitedly talk about each recent game from this amazing series.
The Islanders had my faves Bryan Trottier, Clark Gillies, Denis Potvin, Chico Resch, Bobby Nystrom — and a rookie that scored 50 goals named Mike Bossy.
The Maples Leafs had my other faves Darryl Sittler, Lanny McDonald, Börje Salming, Ian Turnbull, Ryan Ellis — and the acrobatic goalie Mike Palmateer who was nicknamed the “Popcorn Kid”.
What a series … What a memory!

“I LOVE Hockey!” …
“Hockey Faves” is a personal/educational inquiry project where I explore iMovie’s video program and my old hockey memories. Since I grew up in Saskatchewan, I didn’t have a geological preference or major loyalty to any specific hockey player or team. I grew up loving everything about hockey — I passionately collected hockey cards — and I ‘ve loved many eras, moments, players and teams throughout the past decades.
