  1. Well, they do have several ex-Sabres and it seems they go on to win the Cup after leaving so there is that I guess. 😀

  2. Oiler fans shouldn’t be too hopeful. They’ll have a decent regular season and shit the bed in the playoffs.

In true Oilers fashion of course.

  3. Canucks are one addition on D away from wining but as of right now, yes it is the oilers

  4. If they were truly as close as it seemed… I'd wager they have lost less of their roster than Florida did. So I'd say sure, at least a top 4 favourite.

  5. I hope I'm wrong but no, they're not the likeliest. The simplest reason being: the Panthers defied the odds by making it back to the final the year after losing in the final. No matter how good a team is, there's a reason it doesn't happen very often.

  6. I wouldn’t be surprised if mcdavid takes a team friendly deal when it’s time to renew. You know he has wants to stay an oiler and win a cup. If he takes a team friendly deal then they have even more cap space to go get some supporting talent

  7. It's interesting that 1 month after the finals everyone in the comments had an amnesia and went back to the Oilers having awful defence that can't win championships

  8. if a canadian team is gonna win i hope it's montreal or vancouver. i hate all the other canadian teams with a passion

  9. To answer the title question: no. not in the slightest. The Oilers still lack scoring depth, they lack a competent defense as long as Darnell Nurse and Cody Ceci are taking valuable roster spots, and their goaltending is still rough, Skinner can be solid but very inconsistent and Pickard should not at all be in the NHL let along as a yearly back-up. They'll make playoffs because they have Draisaitl and Bouchard but they'll be out in the 2nd round probably.

  10. Hunter has enjoyed the fruits of a franchise in junior that spends more than others. Bryan Lawton should be a front runner imo

  11. The Canucks will end the season with more points. Playoffs are a crapshoot. Save this comment.

  12. Love how ppl hate on the oilers defense and goalie when they had a historic pk in the playoffs. That team woulda won the cup 95% of the time but florida is battle tested and just a whole other animal….and the oilers were 1 goal away. Ill grant you that nurse and kulak werent very good in the finals, but they should be right back in the mix next season

  13. As a Leafs fan, hearing Mark Hunter's name made me go find this Steve Dangle tweet from last year.year:
"Mark Hunter was the Leafs’ Director of Hockey Ops for two years and Assistant GM for two years. That’s his only experience in a professional hockey front office. He’s 60, and it’s cool that he’s 60, but if you’re gonna go inexperienced (he is), go young. How is his name out there."

  14. Goaltending and inconsistent play from some of their top D men will be their Achilles heel. They can’t put all the weight on the top 6 forwards and 1 defenseman.

  15. Oilers are dirty AF, they made Panthers look like model citizens.
If DOPS actually does its job, Oilers won't even make it out of round 1.

  16. After saying the Oilers were cup-capable for the last few years as an Oilers fan, I am scared by the amount of people who think we can win. I — and the team — likes the doubt. They'll still get the doubt and hate, but the more the better.

  17. There’s been rumours that McDavid, Draisaitl and Bouchard are willing to take team-friendly contracts and god do I hope they’re true.

  18. remember what happens for a
2012 Canucks? Lost in game 7 then lost in 1st round next year 😅 Oiler is the next 😂😂😂

  19. I honestly don't think so. Unless McDavid and Draisetl both stay and can improve from last season's performances. Which is asking a LOT imho.

  20. Too-early-to-tell Prediction: Dallas and Edmonton meet again in the WCF but Dallas wins this time. Dallas wins the 2025 Cup, Benn unexpectedly retires, Jason Robertson named team captain starting in 25-26, Johnston locked up long term now wearing #16

  21. sure, sure. The oilers will be 5 minutes left in the game seven SC final up 3-1 and then the rapture happens!!! ARGH!

  22. I like the Oilers to at least make it back. I think it’s likely they win it IF they make it back to the finals. This is kinda McDavid and Draisatl last shot to get er done unless Draisatl does resign. Personally I think he’d be a fool to stay when he could break out and become a C and 1st
Line center for any team in the league (not captain but 1st line center by far.)

  23. Lots of salty Canucks fans in the comments. Looking forward to the Nashville Edmonton western conference final. Whoever wins that wins the cup.

  24. So McDavid isn’t going to miss beginning of season? All I found was he still has a back issue. Nothing about missing time.
