The Penguins have had a lot of Hall of Fame talent, so who’s next?

The Pittsburgh Penguins Hockey Club has seen its fair share of Hockey Hall of Fame talent over the years, which begs the question, outside of the stars…who’s next? Patrick and Hunter discuss the embarrassment of riches we’ve seen for the last 40 years and who could be the next non-superstar to get the call to the hall from the Pittsburgh Penguins. After talking about the Penguins’ offseason moves on Monday’s show, they talk about who this Penguins team really is and if they are more like the team that caught fire down the stretch or are closer to the middle-of-the-road team they were throughout the majority of 2023-24? Finally, some quick news and notes from around the Metro – CBJ’s new coach and if Carolina is poised to take a step back after losing so much talent.

  1. 100% agree about Sarge. He should absolutely be in the Hall. I understand that putting Russians in is somewhat questionable at this point — and I get it. I really do. — but if Datsyuk can get in, I don't see why Gonchar doesn't. I'm not saying Gonch was as talented at his position as Datsyuk, but I also thing Dats is a touch overrated (…feel free to flame me, but I stand by my statement). Also fully agree about Mogilny. Phil has a case but I think he falls a little short, sadly. Though hey. Roenick finally got in, so maybe Phil gets in eventually. But I think Pat hit it on the head with the Old Boys Club™. Phil isn't their cup of tea, so I feel like he has to wait a while, at best. Horny maybe isn't a HoF guy, but he's a Pittsburgh Ring of Honor guy at least at some point, isn't he? What a warrior. We don't win those Cups with James Neal in his place.

  2. Another year, another ballot that Mogilny is criminally left out of. Old man group slacking. Tho would be amazing and poetic as well, to see Geno and Gonchar get in the hall together. 'Tis remains a dream scenario sadly.
