This is the biggest issue of the goalie carousel. We didn’t identify who “the guy” is. UPL played amazing once the carosuel stopped, except it was for half a season. How do we know that wasn’t just a good run for him. Are you confident that the performance post January 1 is what you’re going to get for 5 million?Â
I don’t envy either side. UPL obviously believes in himself and thinks he’s proven his worth. I can absolutely see why Kevin would be hesitant to lock him up for term.Â

I think they agree to a 3-4 year deal the question is how much. Â

I’m fine with an overpay. They’ve been cheaping out on goaltenders since 2017 and counting on developing the guy they intend to pay at a later date. Here he is, pay him. Even if an overpay ends up being a mistake it at least would be a new mistake.
If you want to tell fans “The future is here” instead of “The future is bright” this is how you do it.

I talked about this with my friend and his theory is that UPL wants a really long term contract (5-7 years or something like that) but the sabres dont want to give him that because they’re trying to develop Levi into their long term goalie so they only want UPL for the amount of time they think Levi will need to fully develop (maybe 2-3 years)
