  1. Absolute crater this upcoming year. Stamkos was the unquestioned leader of that team. Now it's gone, now it's a bunch of guys who know each other.

Comi-tragedy of delusion in the 'ACHTUALLLY, it's a business (no kidding) and here's my 500 word dissertation as to why, ending with an insult' comments.

If you don't know how important Stamkos is with just his mere presence, you are unplugged from the actual team.

Signed – a fan who's spent 10's of thousands at Amalie.

  2. Recent teams that stand pat after a Stanley Cup win don't look so good (i.e. the Capitals and Penguins). I think Tampa is doing what they need to do to stay relevant. As much as I love Stamkos, he was a liability on Defense. I think Tampa will be stronger with the moves than they were last season.

  3. I really like what Tampa did… They have a great mix of younger players, mid-age players, and vets… Hedman looks like one of the Ds who can play till 40 and still being very effective… If they're able to summon another Cirelli out of the blue, then they're more than fine…

  4. For all that other info up there that I cant see, I dont know why youre stopping at top 6/top 4. Doesnt really give a full idea of the team, especially with the importance of depth.

  5. Not a fan of losing Stammer or Serg but business is business. I hope the additions pan out. I think the team is playoff capable not sure depth of run till we see some of these guys skate with the team.

  6. I think Tampa is going to be good. If they’re well in the hunt come trade deadline they will get some big names and make a run.

  7. I have a feeling Connor Geekie is going to make an appearance and maybe an impact. But an appearance at the very least.

  8. From a Tampa fan, I disagree on the Kuch for captain thing. Even though he’s young there’s a big sentiment around Point becoming captain sooner or later so if Hedman isn’t up to it I’d say Point or McD would have a really solid chance at it.

  9. I hated the Stamkos decision at first, but I have a feeling JBB knows something that most people don’t. I’m willing to bet that the roster overhaul and regaining draft picks will prolong their Cup window.

  10. I've been a life long Lightning fan. One of the biggest mistakes I felt the team did the past few years was letting McDonagh go. If you watched his play, he was a second goalie on the ice. He was a defensive defenseman, which helped Vasy tremendously. After his departure, Vasy's numbers began to fall, and he was overworked because the defense wasn't clearing the box. The Lightning had offense, but their two-way play was terrible. JBB is trying to make a team based around Vasy and being better defensively, as shown by the team's GAA last season. Stamkos, unfortunately, didn't help the defensive side of the game, and Sergachev, though had some great offensive numbers, also had more turnovers than an pastry shop. We need players that can play a 2-way game. I see Guentzel like Barkov. Not necessarily in the leadership category, but with his 2-way play. He's solid offensively, but can play defensive and adjust to the play quickly, where Stamkos couldn't. I loved Stamkos as much as any fan, and there is no doubt he is the best Captain the team has ever had, but we need to find a way to win. We don't like the fact the Sunrise Kitty Cats won the Cup.

  11. I really like the "refresh" that Tampa completed and have a lot of respect for JBB. A good GM cannot let sentiment come into play. I'm happy that Stammer got paid, wish him and his family the best. He will always be a Bolt and look forward to seeing his #91 in the rafters. No way he was getting 4 years at 8 million per in Tampa, most fans would have been upset if that had happened. Regarding "leadership", NOT WORRIED. To be honest, Stammer and McDonagh are an even swap in that category. I think the defense got better. While I like Sergachev, he was always a bit of a defensive liability. The additions of McDonagh and Moser are exciting. Tampa has decent depth at defense with Raddysh, Lilleberg, Perbix, Crozier. I agree with you on Vasi, the back injury/surgery/recovery definitely impacted his season. I expect a return to form. The forward lines are a ? for me, excited to see how they develop. I think getting Geekie in the Sergachev trade was HUGE for the organization. A couple low risk adds bringing in Atkinson and Girgensons. I really hope Sheary has a bounceback year, we will see. And one note I would have included on your board, JBB joining Coop on Team Canada for the 4 Nations and Olympics. Tampa's ownership/management/coaching staff continue to be excellent, huge x-factor for the team. GO BOLTS!

  12. Guentzel gets the chance to be on the same line as upper tier generational player once again (Kucherov), so I think Stamkos although missed will be aptly replaced by a guy who could score 50+ on such a line, no offense to Bryan Rust, he's a good 20-25 goal scorer, but Crosby and Malkin are expected to carry their whole line, the fact Drew O'Connor might end up Crosby's wing on the first line depresses me, a Pens fan, not my first team, but second for sure. It's not that talented players wouldn't like to play with Crosby/Malkin or to be paired up with Karlsson or Letang, it's just that their cap space is so small, I'm surprised they managed to draw in a 2nd/3rd liner (likely a second liner with Lizotte).

Nick Paul is second line material IMO, after watching him ever since he left Ottawa. They should have signed Halak when it was obvious Johansson wasn't doing it. He deserved one last chance to impress as a main goalie who's probably the best tandem/1A/1B goalie of the 21st century, oh well, he could have had it with Carolina when they signed him to that PTO, but he didn't want to waste time in the AHL to play 3-4 games to get himself in shape, he kept himself in shape thus why he was the most sought after backup during the season. I guess his career is over now that he will be 40 soon and having skipped a season. Goodbye Jaro, you were the MVP of the 2010-11 playoffs, no doubt.

I don't like Tampa much, never did, even with the original winning team, with 2 guys from where I'm from running the show so wonderfully (Lecavalier+ St-Louis duo) and Khabibulin goaling Hasek style, I was full on behind Philadelphia in that Conference Finals and since then they went from a team that was always rather mediocre to a team that was always dangling Lecavalier to the Habs, twice, only to sign him anyway, when he was still the real Vinny, later on, good on the Habs for not having interest, he ended up with post 2004-2005 lockout Flyers, a team I didn't care for and really hate after they took out Montreal in Conference finals after Halak and the team did miracles, coming back from 3-1 deficits twice against the best teams in the East back to back, first against WSH and then PIT, they had to be unable to score on Michael Freaking Leighton, as Philly's 2 main goalies were injured, I'm glad they were swept afterwards by Chicago. Funny heh, looks like Goaltending issues are never ending for Philly since Hextall retired, promising new goalies having incredible failures in crucial moments (Ceckmanek), problems outside the rink (Ray Emery) and now that they seemed to have found their new starter, Carter Hart, he might have done really stupid that might cost him his career. I hope he is innocent just for the sport itself and that they end up focusing on a couple others, but the lack of development in the story is deafening.

GL Tampa, you're still gonna be real good for some years to come, I'm sure, better keep Kucherov his entire career for that to happen though.
