On today’s Western Conference Tuesday edition of Locked on NHL, Seth and JD look at the teams in the West who will be under the most pressure in 2024-25. We start with the Nashville Predators, who made major moves in the offseason and as a result will mean much higher stakes for the Predators this year. Seth and JD also discuss the Colorado Avalanche and Vegas Golden Knights, who continue to face mounting cap restraints which make filling out their roster difficult beyond their top level players. Seth and JD also discuss the Edmonton Oilers and the mounting pressure they face with Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid nearing the end of their contracts. Seth and JD also discuss the Los Angeles Kings, specifically GM Rob Blake and the mounting pressure he is facing with a Kings team that has been more of a wildcard team then a legitimate contender. The ppl around Preds agree upon that one has to expect more from the team with these moves.
I think there is general consensus to claim that Preds gotta break out of the 1.round in the PO
for this season to be classified as successful.
Everybody can see that that will be tough enough.
Furthermore, to claim that Trodz went all-in is simply wrong. Yes, for the 1.time in franchise history he banged Preds over the cap.
But none of his moves involved sacrificing his pics.
I believe Preds have 2 1.round and 3. 2.round next year, most in the league. The prospects and the pipeline is very strong. Preds look like a well-run
franchise atm, very much like arch-enemy Dallas.
But sure, a couple of hundred grand over cap
implies Trodz is not done trading. And the pressure on the GM increases when there is little room for maneuver.
As an Avs fan- I don't think Georgie will stay. We don't seem to re-sign goalies or be willing to give them much of the cap. Our goalie prospects are interesting but I think we will be signing somebody new.
Mikko is nearing a contract extension and it is rumored to be at max term which will lower the AAV. This will help with planning for the future before his current contact expires next year.
Obviously the Cap is going up.
It is hard building a team with several players receiving double digits. However, these players have proven they can win together and our front office has shown they know how to put it together.
