Thinking about these four men right now following today’s news.

The recent announcement of Dale Tallon's former Blackhawks successor Stan Bowman being hired on as the new Oilers GM has made me look back and think about Tallon, Mike Keenan, Randy Sexton and Tom Rowe. All four of these men are considered to be the worst GMs in Panthers franchise history. Keenan is notorious for being such a hard ass towards every player he worked with. Sexton and Rowe were both so bad they lasted only full season. And Tallon never managed to get the team moving when it mattered.

Anything else I need to remember about these guys during their time here, feel free to comment!

Tallon in hindsight is an interesting case to study for the Panthers. On one hand, he built a legitimate core for the Panthers and surrounded those players with quality mentors that helped them transition and elevate their game at the NHL level. Yes Huberdeau and Trocheck are gone, but both those guys were successes no matter how you look at it.

But on the flipside his contract signings absolutely hamstrung the team at times. The Bolland and Strahlman contracts were absolutely brutal while the Yandle contract is still hampering the team today. Hell, had it not been for his play over the past two seasons, you could make the argument that Bobs contract was a disaster as well.

But that happens at times. What really killed Tallon’s legacy with us was the 2017 expansion draft. Offering Riley Smith as trade bait to take Jonathan Marchessault so we could protect Alex fucking Petrovic was one of the biggest blunders in hockey history. Those two not only immediately contributed to Vegas and bolstered their team into a cup contender, they also were pivotal in Vegas’ cup win against us, with one winning the damn Conn Smythe award as a result. Tallon both laid the foundation to our success as a franchise, and made moves that haunted us as a franchise.

But I’d take him in a heartbeat over Stan Bowman any day of the week Jesus Christ what was Edmonton thinking there.

Tallon brought credibility to the Panthers. Drafted his guys, signed good players that otherwise would never have considered Florida. Like Chicago just couldn’t finish the job, manage the cap (partially ownership) and make decisions based on business and not loyalty. Grateful for what he was able to accomplish, without him Zito doesn’t have the pieces to turn the cats into a winner.

The biggest blunder of tallon was when he didn’t protect marchessault and reilley in the expansion draft and went on to win the stanley with Vegas meanwhile the players tallon protected never amounted to anything. Marchessault scored 30 goals for the cats that season before he was left unprotected a horrible GM

Tom Rowe was wild, that was the first time I flat out would not watch hockey while he was around.
