I don't mind the UPL signing it's a tradable contract if necessary
I am glad UPL signed such a majestic contract with the sabres.
That UPL deal is basically the Demko deal which aged nicely
As admittedly an on-and-off again hockey fan, about to enjoy another iced coffee as I listen to this and get ready to blitz out some tabletop card sim hockey, 1948-49 NHL season replay, I listen to THG and wonder how I ever got away from this from time to time, or from hockey (as much as there is to dislike about both on and off-ice hockey culture and corporate hockey culture there is to dislike).
Love the UPL deal. Go Sabres

A collective sigh of relief from Sabres fandom. I think at the back of a lot of people's minds was Ullmark walking, and hoping history didn't repeat itself (yes, they had control for another year, but he could have walked next year if I'm not mistaken).

This is the UPL contract I was hoping for. At least our goaltending looks promising.
For 5 years is a head scratcher. It won't take Levi 5 years to be a regular goalie for the Sabers.

Buffalo's goaltending has been terrible for years…until mid season this year. They've had more patience than I would. Hopefully the kids the answer.
UPL's contract is like the only good thing that's happened to the sabres in 2024
Underrated aspect for the signing of Cholowski: he’s going to spend the season in the AHL but the important thing is that he’s considered to be a veteran. The Bridgeport Islanders average age is like 25 right now and they’ve had so many departures to overseas leagues that losing him would have been a problem.
Next year only 2 of 6 defensemen are going to be truly experienced and 3 of 6 haven’t played a professional game yet. It’s going to be an interesting season but retaining Cholowski was critical.
Good for Stastney. Would've gotten underpaid had he not taken them to Arb.
Sabres are hoping for UPL/Levi to be like Ullmark/Swayman. As a Sabres fan I love it because there is only upside. With two studs for the future. Smart move is Levi in the AHL but let’s go Reimer to the AHL and bring up Levi. Also KA give me a top 6 forward. Sadly would take laine at this point!

A team can't walk away from signing a contract from arbitration if the result contract is less than $4.74M per year.
UPL contract is very risky, might be another Merzļikins kind of deal.

the AAV is fine, but i'd have wanted UPL at a 3 year contract. by then you'll know what you have in levi and can decide going forward. oh well, it's still a tradeable contract if they wanna go with levi at that point. unless UPL totally craters, the deal is fine.

Bruins must be loving the recent goalie contracts. not to compare sway and UPL or anything but it's interesting to see where goalies are falling. they've got 9 mill and some change to spare so they should have some cap space left over to fill some more holes.

The Sabres' jersey is still the best thing aboot the organization. The best logo in sports IMO.
That contract structure for Stastney is still a win for the player with only 28 NHL games behind him.
His guaranteed pay would be 1.225M across 2 seasons. A lot of AHL guys would love a deal like that. That second year one-way deal is generous from the arbitrator.

That’s fantastic for Buffalo, particularly in light of certain recent years’ signings that raised eyebrows (Samuelsson’s in particular; we need him healthy for that hefty deal to pan out.)
UPL hasn't had the best of luck with injuries. Hopefully, he can stay healthy. Then, they can figure out what to do with Devin Levi .
