By the time the 1982-83 season began, the New York Islanders had dominated the NHL with three Stanley Cup wins in a row, and despite oddsmakers believing they could win 4-straight, but yet a vocal group of naysayers, fans or media, believed that the Isles time was up. That new contenders would rise in their own division, and elsewhere.
Accused of being old, and not having it has difficult as prior dynasties and being told they weren’t on the level of the 1950’s or 1970’s Habs, or even the 1940’s or 1960’s Leafs!
A team that had a great deal of respect, wasn’t getting as much of it as they had earned.

the question isnt if the islanders are greatest team in hockey history the real question is are they the greatest team in sports history.
