He’s not worth much without significant retention. Id give a mid tier prospect and a second at his aav.

So here it is. CBJ looks to be shopping “top-6 forward” Laine for picks and prospects. He has a 10 Team no trade list, which means Buffalo is most likely on it, but if for some reason Buffalo is not, do you want Adams to go after this player and how much are you willing to give up?

In the last 4 seasons he has played 175 games with 65 goals and 141 points. He is not the “40 goal forward” he was viewed as 7 seasons ago but is still young and only has 2 years left on his $8,700,000 deal. His contract pairs with the same term as Benson at $950,000.

Look, would it be funny and would we get a lot of shit if we were to have bought out skinner for a player that plays just like him for more money? Yes. However, he is younger, his deal would expire before the hardest buyout year, and he can actually play on the powerplay. Doesn’t really matter because he’s got a NTC that we’re definitely on and he wants a fresh start to reset his value and he probably think it’ll get worse here

I actually wouldn’t hate adding Laine as a two year rental if the acquisition cost is low.

Could be a low risk (you can make the cap hit work with just two years remaining on the deal) highish reward play if he can return to being a PPG sniper in the top six. He’s only 26, and while defense certainly isn’t his strong suit, he has a much better overall analytical profile than Skinner. They aren’t really the same player at all.

I truly believe that Adams thinks the top six of this team is already on the roster, but I’m not ready to pigeonhole a 19 year old Benson into a role that he probably isn’t ready for. Zucker also shouldn’t be cast in that role.

I think Laine without question makes us a better team over the next two years, and when his deal expires you have a 21 year old Benson as the last piece to your top six core and guys like Kulich, Helenius, and Ostlund who should be NHL ready to fill out the rest of the roster.

Hopefully Laine doesn’t have to go to Buffalo. He played well in the playoffs with Jets, in Buffalo he’d never get to see playoffs again.

  7. Does this mean they give people Laine and draft picks? Cuz I don’t think you’re getting much for that contract and production.

The hardest of passes. He isn’t good anymore and hasn’t been for a while.

Remember when McCabe obliterated him at center ice? One of my favorite drought memories.
