OK Guys, it’s time to talk about one of the hottest names on the NHL’s trade market right now.. Patrik Laine of the Columbus Blue Jackets.. Elliote Friedman reported today that Laine has officially been released from the NHL’s player assistance program.. and now teams can actively speak with him.. to help facilitate a trade. Where will he go? Lets talk about it..

  1. Hes been a point per game or close his entire career, even through his issues. I trust Hughes judgement on this but they should seriously look at him, his pure scoring ability (and his 6 foot 5 frame) are special regardless. His shots top 10 in the league

  2. Laine has more streaks than my underwear. Columbus was too pressure filled for him…freakin' Columbus. Winnipeg pressure I get, but COLUMBUS??? Not Habs material. I politely say no for MTL.

  3. I hope Laine ends up someplace where he can score points and make his money with no pressure. So, Canada is OUT. He seems like a good guy, I want him to go someplace where he can stay safe and healthy.

  4. They would be lucky to get a second round pick and less than 40% retained. No one is giving up assets for this guy and all his problems. He’s a 35-45 game a year guy now at best.

  5. I’m sure they’ve enquired but I don’t think they’ll risk upsetting the culture unless it’s a steal.

  6. Something I noticed is people only see the positive get this 30 goal guy and we are better and that is a false thought process.
The thing about the Habs is they are loaded in soft players that lose puck battles we lose battles in bus loads. You can get away with a couple but even one slack board battle can get you scored on and or cause turnovers that give opposing teams a nice transition.
Way way back when they had that line going in Winni with Wheeler and Scheifle I still did not like Laine he plays a losing type game and needs to be carried by really good 2 way players on his line.

  7. Detroit. Stevey Y flubbed free agency badly, he's left holding a bunch of freed cap space. I feel with the desperation moves he's made the past two offseasons, acquiring Laine is right down his alley.

Either that or I could see Carolina making a move for him. They have tonnes of good prospects, there is the Finnish connection, and they also had a bad few agency losing Guentzel.

  8. I would be surprised if he ends up a Hab, with so many prospects that need a look. A couple of years too early for this squad in my opinion.

  9. I’d love him, but it’s more like 2x2nd and Baron, and maybe Harris, but that be it. Cause they’ve been drafting forwards like mad and could use a couple good young D and Baron could use a change of scenery.

  10. Who really wants him ? He's got issues, he's s lazy, and his contract is for too much money. Maybe the Bluejackets dont want him back because what makes the most sense is to keep him and have him play decent hockey and, by the deadline, move him for a haul. Right now, his value couldn't be lower, and yet the team wants him gone. Laine is a flake, and any GM who takes him on risks looking like a fool and that outweighs thr odds he plays great, and you look like a genius.

  11. Only a team looking to fill-out their Cap Space quota will have any interest in this elite waste of time.

  12. 8.7m for a high risk player and they want picks and prospects? They better retain 50% salary at this price

  13. I don't think he's a Team player, he does his own thing and he has the talent to earn a spot. Not a Habs type player but he'll get another shot, best of luck to him, addiction is a hard disease to live with.
