  1. He's sealed his fate, the contract is not the player and he knows it and that alone will inevitably be his demise .. you can tell he's in his head, it's brutal to watch .. he'd be a better player if he was payed what he's worth .. PERIOD!

  2. I’m no hater of any hockey player….but, if I was playing against the Oilers, and I had the puck in Edmonton’s end, I’d shoot the puck at Nurse. Other teams must already know that…..pucks are always owing in off his skates or his body.

  3. I think situations like this are sad – he's a hell of a player, just overpaid….and I don't even think he's overpaid – nhl players are all underpaid vs other sports.

  4. The Nurse Hatred has been a longstanding black spot on the Oil Fandom and I am so tired of it. As he said last summer, he gets blamed for everything in Edmonton from a goal against to traffic jams on the Anthony Henday. Most of it is unwarranted / bad faith critisms but its all justified due to the high salary. Okay! It isn't critical if it is entirely trash talk and him getting that money does not make all the haters any less of a bunch of a$$holes for the garbage that they say but apparently they sleep fine at night because how dare he have accepted so much coin. Get real. People should grow up and learn how to be a bit more respectful even when they are upset or find other ways to vent their frustrations without using Nurse as a punching bag.

  5. As an Oilers fan, this is a tough one. On the one hand, I do like Nurse when he’s on his game. In Game 4, for instance, which the Oilers won pretty impressively, I think he led all players in hits. But I have to admit as well that I’m often nervous when he’s on the ice—and you shouldn’t normally feel that way when it’s your second-highest paid player.

  6. He has been over-hyped for years, best season he has EVER had was 43 points…wayyyy over paid. Most years he only hits 30 something points…very average. Should only paid average

  7. I feel bad for him honestly, sure shots bounced off of him and into the net etc but stuff happens.
Is a top d man? No not realy but like Leon said the lot of good he does goes unseen.

  8. The worst thing about Nurse contract is the no move clause. Yes he is way over paid for what he brings. He is a decent defenseman but at most he shouldn't make more then 7 million. His contract going to hamper oilers chances of keeping. Bouchard, Drasital and McDavid. Oilers will need to trade Ceci this off season and have Broberg fill in for him. Really wished nhl would allow each team to have one player who the team drafted be excluded from salary cap. This way top stars can make a little extra and team's have a higher chance of keeping player that they put a lot of money in. Also this business of buy outs counting against the cap is stupid. Team's should be able to buy out player if they are bringing team down. Just have a rule if player is bought out they can't go to team that bought them out. Since team's will use that to get around salary cap. Team's should not have to be stuck with underperforming player. Team's make mistakes same as players. As long as team is willing to fork over money on bad contract to player. Then no one is getting hurt by player getting let go.

  9. For people that complain about his contract it’s really management’s fault for signing him on a bridge deal that went right into the start of his prime. Combine that with how ass the oilers defense was at that time they set up the conditions for the contract. Hard to blame a guy for taking the money I know I would.

  10. Edmonton offered him that money and I would say that they did so because they have so much trouble attracting and retaining people with that franchise. Now we see one big reason why.

  11. You nailed it! If you consider how important Draisaitl, Hyman, Bouchard, Ekholm, Nuge… are for the Oilers' game, this criticism is absolutely legitimate! If a player who earns $3/4 million more per season than Draisaitl hardly stands out and is not criticized for it, something would be wrong in the system. But that is the "professional" part, no different than, for example, a CEO under whose leadership a company does not develop. But his private life or even that of his family is completely separate from that. Any criticism that concerns or even influences these areas is absolutely unacceptable and the people responsible for them should immediately be stripped of their accreditation for all events by the Oilers organization. Perhaps too European a view for some North Americans 🤷‍♂️ but that is 100% my opinion. The only exception: the way he conducts his private life impairs his ability to do his job – everyone knows what that means. There was a reason why the Oilers decided to offer him this contract – whether you can understand it or not is completely irrelevant. After all, there are enough surprising high performers who continue to play despite a bad contract

  12. Talking about Nurse’s contract is ridiculous! Look at your own work situation, you and your employer agreed upon a salary you would work for. Now do yourself a favour and go around your workplace and ask everyone and their dog anonymously, whether or not you are worth the pay you are getting for your performance. You might be surprised to find out you are a worthless piece of crap for your pay point! Nurse and the Oilers negotiated a salary, they didn’t have specific targets to meet in order to get paid. Enough of the bullshit about Nurse! Check his seasonal stats!

  13. As an AFL fan what’s with the NHL teams putting up struggling players in front of the media? I would’ve thought Nurse is the last guy you would want to throw to the wolves in a tense playoff series. Canucks did the same with Petey, just seemed bizarre and not showing a duty of care

  14. The "criticism from the fans is valid"… I would caveat that. Some of it is. I am a bit of a Nurse booster… but even I realize that his contract is too high for the type of player he is, so I will say that, and I think that argument is very true. He should be around $6M ish. But a couple years ago (I think it was?) and now in playoffs, he's been heaaaavvviillly blamed for most goals against when he's on the ice, even when he didn't contribute to them in a negative way. That's the only problem I have with the criticism. Our forwards here somehow escape criticism except when it involves scoring goals, and to me that tells me a lot of people don't understand the game well enough.

Also, I personally think it's counterproductive to hyperbolise and be hypercritical of players. It's definitely fair to critique guys when they make mistakes, but I think it's gone beyond that. Just my 2 cents.

  15. He’s been bad every playoff run the oilers have had. He should have been bought out 2 seasons ago and now mcdavid may not get his cup because of him

  16. How many times are you going to talk about this team dude holy crap. You know there are still 4 other teams to talk about. What are you gonna do if Edmonton gets knocked out?

  17. It would be a lot different if he didnt happen to be on the ice for 75% of the defensive breakdowns that end up in a bad goal these playoffs

  18. Nurse just makes poor decisions way too frequently. Your clip where Robinson scored could’ve easily been avoided but simply putting his stick in position instead of trying to go down.

  19. i like Nurse, i do. But ive been finding myself stressed out when the puck is in the oilers zone and hes on the ice. Currently sporting a -12 and 3A this post season for a top d man is not good. People are right to be upset. Hes making the highest paid d man so yea, attention will be on him for this kind of performance. he had a tough start game 4 but managed to get it together. I hope he finds his groove again.
