Breandan Witt, Washington Capitals / NHL Rookie Feature

An NHL Rookie Feature on defenceman of Breandan Witt of the Washington Capitals.

Brendan Witt was a tough “stay at home” NHL defenseman during the 1990s and 2000s. He excelled at the physical side of hockey and led the NHL in hits during the 2000-01 season.

During his junior hockey career, Witt was a top NHL prospect. He was selected 11th overall in the first round of the 1993 NHL draft. Witt was named the WHL’s Top Defenseman and was selected as a 1st Team All-Star in 1994. That same same year, Witt won gold with Team Canada at the World Junior Championships.

Brendan Witt was part of Washington’s leadership core and was the Capitals’ co-captain during the 2001-2002 NHL season. Witt also spent 4 years as an assistant captain with the New York Islanders.

Brendan played pro hockey from 1995 to 2010. He played in 890 regular season NHL games, recorded 121 NHL points, and recorded 1424 minutes in penalties.

Brendan Witt was from my hometown of Humboldt, Saskatchewan. I grew up playing hockey and football with his older brother. This video is a small celebration and tribute to his his life in professional hockey.

After the Humboldt Broncos tragedy in 2018, part of my personal grieving, processing, and healing journey involved researching some of the NHL hockey personalities from my hometown.

This video is a personal inquiry project and is for educational purposes only. I do not own the artwork or imagery in this video.
