  1. 90 percent of goaltending is mental. I do not believe UPL has the mental toughness to win a Stanley Cup. It doesn't matter if your big you have to play goal you have to stop the puck. UPL is still a shot blocker and it will catch up to him maybe even this year.

  2. Something that seems likely is that in 3 years Levi takes over as the starter and we let go of UPL in a cap dump and get a good return on him for a trade.

  3. You missed out on Liverpool in Ann Arbor 5 years ago, Joe. 100 k fans at the big house for Man U vs the Reds, even tho it was only friendlies – they had the champions league trophy and were showing it off.

  4. I have a feeling that if UPL gets hurt this year and is out for more than 2 weeks.. Levi could supplant him quickly. Levi might also take another year and UPL would be expendable. time will tell. I'm not a fan of 5 years.. but if UPL keeps up his play from last year, he will have value in a trade.

  5. So in the future we will need to sign; Quinn, Peterka, Byrum, Benson in a couple years, Tuch in a couple years, and Levi.

All those guys are going to cost a good chunk of cash, and with that Byrum contract and what he will be expecting – too much of the cap is spent on the top 4 defense. That’s 32.5M out of the 88M cap. Too much I think

  6. Joe- Laine is more than a “supped-up” Olofsson ….he is a younger, much more talented NHL caliber point per game player. Generational goal scorer and still hasn’t hit his prime and has been on awful teams. If you put him on a line with McDavid he would probably have 70 goals.

  7. Look at the defense that will be in front of U.P.L. this coming season compared to last season. With an almost brand new bottom six forwards who are much more physical and defensively inclined, the shots that U.P.L. will have to face should be dramatically lower, plus a healthy Samuelsson will help in that regard. A healthy Jack Quinn should bring Cozens back to his previous-season form, especially if Peterka can continue to develop. The future is looking brighter, if they can avoid the injury bug!

  8. The upside to Laine is that we need a LW’er after buying out Skinner, and with him being much more talented than Olofsson was, we don’t need him to be a two-way player as much with the players we brought in.

Down side is, without knowing why he was the Assistance Program, I always get nervous when a player that’s as crazy Talented as Laine is, moves around the league as often as he has. Probably too much of a Red Flag for a team that’s trying to end a drought.
