I was 17 yrs old and on a family road trip to Washington D.C. when this game was played. Didn't get to see the game. Don't even know if it was televised in the states. Saw the result on the local news and was surprised the Habs didn't flat out whip them. Was happy that my favorite player Cournoyer scored.
Just rewatched and maybe the game is a little overhyped. It was quite the scene and setting, just over two years after the ‘72 series, in which an All Star Canadian team barely beat the Soviets, the Red Army has crushed the Rangers a couple of nights earlier, the Forum had seen the USSR thump Team Canada, so the fans, even Brian Mulroney!, were very nervous going in. The Habs though were all over the Red Army, stripping the puck with ease all game and constant pressure nd chances. Cournoyer stands out as a bundle of energy, and he did win the Conn Smyther later that season. Savard also on defence Owned the backend. Lafleur didn’t make much of an impact, this was his breakout season but he still wasn’t dominating. The Habs were impressive, rolling the lines, everyone hustlingin this game and the crowd was very relieved it didn’t take n All Star team to go head to head. A great show but no necessarily a great game.
Couple things I notice. The Soviets rarely dump it in. They prefer to control it over the line or they re-group. Also, they hold on to the puck while killing a penalty. They don’t just give it away like we do. Smart.
Enjoyed watching this. 50 years and the game has evolved so much. By today's standards is was sloppy, disorganized and barely beer league level.. but fun to watch none the less
The Russians won the series 5-2-1, yet Canadian journalists wrote stories that read, "At least they didn't beat the Flyers and Canadiens. So, the five wins don't really matter." What a bunch of sour grapes. The Russians whipped NHL ass. Go, USSR!!

The pace, the talent, level of competition. I remember watching live this game with father. Best game ever!
I thought the thumbnail was Martin Short, and this was a really long SCTV sketch 😂

Uppgjorda matcher….
I would have enjoyed this game if not for the commercials constantly . Every few minutes it's commercial time and that's just a bit to much .
Imagine this series produced two historical games with the other one being against the Flyers.
they look light highschoolers compared to todays pros
The Soviet team was not called the Red Army, but CSKA – Central Club of the Soviet Army
Those were the days. I was 17 yrs old, hockey will never be this great again.

….so Jofa buckets have always been filthy.
1:50:37 lol le gars dans la foule
The book on Dryden was to shoot low because he was so tall. It worked. I saw Brad Park do it a few times on him.
Ничего! "Лётчики" потом этих конских славно уделали! Те даже в раздевалку убежали под лавки прятаться!
Notice how there's no ads and egregious breaks constantly for ads? Twas a better time indeed!
right of the first faceoff it goes back and forth, wow
По ныншним временам,дворовые команды
Saw this game. Greatest game ever. Red army completely outplayed by Montreal.
Let's all take a moment and give the guy playing organ some credit! Especially during the introduction ☺
this is super series 76….
The red army are wiping their asses with the canadiens
There was a sports store north of the Forum and the Soviets went there and bought every stick because they were better than anything they got at home,
but people in audience don't have phones:((
Oh, gosh, this is so much better hockey than NHL nowadays. Speed, skills and respect to each other.
Charlamov 👍
How would put a ad on their hair? Out BH.
Most of canadiens' shots on goal were toothless.
The Soviet Union is a country with a big heart,Russia it's a bull shit!!!!
Funny how the Red Army team borrowed some players from Dynamo just for these matches.Other years they borrowed from Spartak.Communists always cheated.

Kharlamov – best of the best!!!!
Вот эта да !!!! Ну , как стадион приветствовал В. Харламова !!!! Обалдеть, аж до мурашек по коже ! Они там в Канаде понимали , он гениальный игрок !!!
Reminder montreal canadiens outshot Russians 38-13. And Dryden let in 2 easy goals. Habs dominated badly
Chills the entire game .
