This doesn’t seem to take Playoff Risto into account, feel free to ignore it

It is. Very young D core with lots of upside if things go right, but right now they’re not very good. Sanheim is a 2nd/3rd pair defenseman on a good team.
This is what people want from a rebuilding team, though, right? Young defenseman getting lots of ice time and growing through experience. 3 out of 6 defenseman most nights will be 25 years old or younger this season.

I’ll take rankings like this because maybe it gives them something to prove. Maybe they work a little harder in the off season and elevate their games. Or they really do suck and maybe we pick higher now that other teams have really beefed up in the off season.

**Canadiens D:**
– Kaiden Guhle (22) – Jordan Harris (24) – Lane Hutson (20) – Mike Matheson (30) – David Savard (33) – Arber Xhekaj (23)
I’m taking the Flyers core over that all day.
**Blackhawks D:**
– TJ Brodie (34) – Seth Jones (29) – Kevin Korchinski (20) – Alec Martinez (37) – Connor Murphy (31) – Alex Vlasic (23)
I’m taking the Flyers core over that all day.

Hi. I am a crappy reporter and this is the offseason. I need clickbait.

Yeah we are really betting on York doing another big improvement and everyone staying healthy

Red Wings have Edvisson, Seider and Sandin-Pellikka in their pipeline too so we’re probably worse than them. Those guys are all slated to be studs
BigHead1012
Passing on Buium was a huge mistake, he was a blue chip 1D potential prospect, fell to Flyers….. we don’t take him.

Yeahhhh we don’t have a #1 guy. Lots of great 2nd line guys on top teams. And fringe 1st liners at best. We are a guy away from being top 10. Def not bottom 10 imo
Exzrian_Artistrana
Have consistently had a bottom 10 PK, and semi-consistently in the bottom half of 5-5 GAA. Yes, unfortunately, it is that bad

It has been for years.

We’re only 6?!
Could’ve sworn we’d break the top 5.
But yeah I think it’s fair. Sanheim and York are fine pieces, but they aren’t game changing d men, and likely won’t ever be. (York is still very young for an NHL D man but even if he hits he’s not like a showstopper guy)
Everyone else is an unproven prospect like Andrae or Bonk, an unproven younger player like Zamula or Drysdale (York is actually a year older than Drysdale but has played more games and JD has had his development slowed due to injury), older dudes who’ve settled into their roles like Seeler and Johnson, and Risto. Who I’m not sure fits in any category cleanly. He’s not that old yet but you’d think he’d be done developing, but he’s completely revamped his game to be a very good defensive player, but then he got hurt. So he gets his own category. The Risto category.
Considering the flyers are rebuilding and are one of the youngest teams in hockey with most players being barely pro, they’re gonna be at the bottom of all lists like these. It’s not an insult. It’s just that we truly don’t know what we have yet, and probably won’t for another year or so.

Yes. We literally have zero top pair dmen.
