  1. Crazy the year he had last year playing with Forsberg and Nyquist. And now he has Stamkos and Marchessault. Who wants to bet Nashville will go further into the playoffs than Toronto?

  2. I say this as a Habs fan. If the Leafs EVER win the cup, the players on that team will be revered for decades above and beyond what is normal. Some players should want that opportunity

  3. but you can't watch other sports. The Blue Jays suck this year, the Raptors sucked this year, the Maple Leafs sucked in the playoffs. Also the media does help destroy the Leafs as it feels like MSLE listens to the media complaints to much and make moves based on that.

  4. I don't care if you all delete my posts. LEAGUE IS RIGGED, LEAGUE IS RIGGED, LEAGUE IS RIGGED. I'm convinced Gary Bettman would crash the Canadian franchise's team's plane before they are permitted to win the Stanley Cup in his league. Not. Going. To. Happen. Utah is going to win at some point in the next 5-7 years as long as Bettman runs the show. You can print that in blood. Bettman wants the non-hockey markets as vibrant and relevant as possible because people like the ones in this podcast will prattle on about hockey in July and support the NHL financially/promotionally NO MATTER WHAT !! And that's the bottom line.

  5. Boys, you live in the city and are part of the media. The Toronto media hinders the team. A guy like Lebron is getting it anywhere, but decisions about who is the healthy scratch every night is newsworthy in TO. The rest of Canada feels it when watching sportscenter and we have to watch 15 minutes of Leafs nothing while there are actual things happening in sports. That has to be horrible for the average player, a lot of mid tear guys going out but rarely any jumping to sign on. You cant expect to be impartial when you are part of the thing you are defending. This O'Reilly comment is more players than I bet you think.

  6. Going to double down on messaging here. The fans are smart enough comment, so here we go. Steve you literally have a job because you are loud and ridiculous. Stay in your lane bud. You guys just listed the biggest athletes in the world and compared it to the Leafs, a middle of the pack team in a sport that is barely followed around the world, except in the pressure cooker that is Toronto. Wake up, and watch calling the fans stupid. Bad look from someone who is not exactly a journalist. Insulting the few people who watch your show may not be a great career choice. And the reason Rangers fans keep quite is because they arw not even a top 5 sports team in the city. Oh well, what are the Yankees doing.

  7. I find it ironic that everyone wants to run "the core" out of town when "the core" are the ones who actually embrace the market…maybe we should be careful what we wish for.

  8. He talked deemphasizing the core on his way out & then campaigns with the real NHL to trade for Marner. Yeah he’s a stand up guy. 🤔

  9. I think a good comparison for the leafs are the cowboys. They are seen as "America's team" and have an overwhelming presence in the NFL news cycle. Everything they do is under a microscope, ever sound byte is dissected, and every year their fans expect them to go to the Superbowl. That media scrutiny and the weight of fan expectations seems to weigh on the players, causes stange personnel moves, and ultimately hurts the team. Now…i think Jerry Jones is an x factor that hurts the comparison, but I absolutely think being a franchise that is the face of your sport while simultaneously having a track record of playoff failure can lead to sub par results. As a Caps fan, I think the team and players benefit from being a bit under the radar. If we had as much scrutiny as the leafs, we probably would have made reactionary moves after all those second round exits that spoiled our chances of eventually winning a cup.

  10. It’s ok O’Reilly…not everyone can handle being the pressure of playing in Toronto. It’s a special place to play.
Better that you bailed to more obscurity in the place that you can handle.👋

  11. I wish you deemphasized your podcast. It’s garbage talk like your podcast why no one wants to come here. Figure it out.

  12. What sucks is that it's not the fans, its the media. Very aggressive and in your face. The reporters in the White House are less aggressive. Lol…

  13. The more and more you guys mention that same point about the media not mattering, the more and more it starts to seem like it definitely does. For the majority of the NHL and its players, playing in the southern US basically ignored unless you win is a better fate to them than having someone with a Mikhael Grabovski profile pic on your ass for having a 49% corsi. Not even saying I agree with it! But it exists.

  14. O’Reilly was around for about 3-4 months in Toronto before immediately leaving, anything he has to say is practically useless to me personally.

  15. The thing about the NHL that makes it unique compared to other sports when talking about the Yankees have to deal with tough media is that the NHL has a hard cap. The Yankees can use their financial strength to build all-star teams, even the NBA has mechanisms that allow financially strong teams to leverage that strength. In the NHL the hard cap neutralizes what should be an advantage for large market teams.

  16. Ryan has been going on and on about his few likes and hinting at his mostly dislikes about playing in TO. Lets face it, Leaf media are atrocious. I wouldn't even call them sports journalists. But all in all playing in TO, specifically Ontario and ultimately Canada is BS because he doesn't want to be taxed to hell. And the taxing is going to get even worse under our PM/Liberal government. I wouldn't want to play in Canada!!

  17. ROR came from St. Louis where a media scrum is 2 people and sponsors are a mattress store with 2 locations and the 2nd biggest GM dealership in the county.
    Nashville is more that speed

  18. O'Reilly is nothing but sdpn noise. Why talk about a guy who had zero interest to play in his home market. Just tell him to F-off and move on.

  19. I love these guys, but I hate when they talk about the media because they really sound like they are coping since they know they are part of it. Medias absolutly are part of the reasons why a canadian team has not won the cup in 30 years.

You just cant compare to other sports like they do. It's so disingenuous to do so. The reason why has nothing to do with the ABSOLUTE amount of pressure but with the RELATIVE amount of pressure. Even though medias in canada are sweet in comparison to Europe, the difference in media and fan pressure accross the different markets in the NHL is huge! Why play in Toronto or Montreal when you could for the same amount play for Nashville or Anaheim? If you have to face the medias and you dont somewhere else, you might also consider that in your contracts negociations.

  20. Watching interviews makes me reminisce of times in grade school with my friends chatting about how nervous hockey players were when interviewed. How easily Carl Brewer handled interviews while you were lucky if Keon lifted his head and Frank with a frozen grin on his face. By the time I got out of school we always talked about guys hoping they wouldn't get traded to Toronto because they hated the amount of cameras and mics that were shoved in their faces. Having to explain that bad pass, stupid giveaway or no support for the D. Now it's can't turn on TSN or SN because of a whole week discussing that players brutal play. It's gotten so bad I truly believe if they showed every players no-trade lists the Leafs would be #1 of all the teams and we celebrate when the Leafs aren't on that list

  21. the exmples you gave were really 1:1 tom brady was like a 7th rd pick with no pressure on a team that wasnt expected to win, Lebron needed a team full of A1 all stars to get it done the only comparison that makes sense would be yankees or chicaco Cubs drought that ended… and even than cause leafs havent won in so long id say pressure is greater

  22. Dude was in a commercial 2 days after getting here . please he wanted top center minutes and wasn't going to get it

  23. he didn’t mind the notoriety of being a star in Canada when it got him off of a DUI charge.

  24. I got to coach Ryan in his 15U year with Toronto Jr Canadiens. His mom told me in January they offered him "not a lot of money" and the same or slightly more money in Nashville went a lot further.

  25. Snook has actual TV commercials here too that pay in USD$ and they he doesn't sacrifice to the Canadian Nanny State

  26. The 3 king dorks, don’t realize they are part of the problem, you guys are so pathetic. You guys pick your favourite players on the team and trash the others. Stop watching these guys, plus we all know Adam has a crush on 34 bad, and 91.. ban all these clowns and leafs will win. Steve you are a stooge!!

  27. A lot of baseball players have had amazing years, signed huge contracts with the Yankees, only to have poor year or years with the Yankees and want out. Baseball does not have a salary cap which is why the Yankees can use the small market teams as basically a farm system.

  28. I met Nylander few weeks ago in London. He was taking the underground there too. He was going to Wimbledon. I was nervous to approach him but He was so nice, struck up a conversation.
