Silovs holding the stick missed call – Tough Call Review

  1. It's crazy all the stuff that happens during those scrambles. Usually it's the old vets getting away with the worst of it!

  2. obviously not allowed but considering where the puck was it is likely worth the penalty even if it gets called so honestly a pretty smart play.

  3. Nice pick up on that play, l thought there was interference also. Tons of controversial calls both ways. Officiating has been poor in all the series.

  4. In defence of the ref, that would be difficult to see initially & even more difficult as the ref wheeled around behind the net to the other side.

The amount of un-called 'holding-the-stick' fouls I've witnessed over the past 3 years is staggering. If the perpetrator executes the hold, on the sly effectively enough, it's extremely hard to see in real time. That said, there have been instances where it was blatantly obvious, with a ref in position to see it, where inexplicably it was not called.

My view is, if a holding-the-stick foul leads directly to a goal, then the team that was scored on should be able to request a review. If the 'war room' determines there was a stick hold that aided the goal, it should be disallowed & the stick holder penalized appropriately. I can think of 5 playoff games & 2 series decided on goals where the scoring team had held a defender's stick preventing him from defending the play. Those goals should have not counted & the offending player should have been penalized.

  5. Smart play from slivos. Its better to have a penalty and go to the penalty kill than have a sure fire goal. Quick thinking on the rookie. The fact it got missed was incredibly lucky

  6. this one was so obvious with the throwing of his own goalie stick (I think he had a choice to hold on to it) and the grabbing on to Ryan's…crazy that this wasn't called, but it did save a goal really and no 2 minutes….so it was one of those "it's worth it to save a goal"

  7. So you concede that Ryan knocked Silovs' stick out of his hand in the goalie crease? Why are you ignoring that missed call and focusing on what Silovs did afterwards? This just proves that the Oilers get away with calls.

  8. I’d seen the Silovs grab the before but didn’t realize how long he held it. Very funny. I agree he absolutely knew what he was doing.
Obviously, it’s a penalty, but I don’t think it would ever be called. No way a ref (even if they were competent) could get a good view and know for sure in real time.
So, as an Oiler fan, I’m not upset. This game had a few posts, this play, and the one where I’m pretty sure the puck crossed the goal line but was in Silvos’ glove so it was inconclusive. Could, woulda, shoulda!

  9. Kind of looked like he was going for the puck, grabbed the stickS 'cause they were in the way and just committed to it after falling. Then, he's focused on the actual puck and just completely forgot he was holding anything else. It just looked like he was holding it for so long because it's in slow motion, but it was only a blink of an eye for him.

  10. That was just willpower right there by Silovs. If he doesn’t make that play it’s going in 100 percent. And Hughes with the goal line save too omg.
