  1. The best signing in the NHL? Patrick Kane. I watched every game, and Kane had a point a game. If he plays 82 this year he should be around 82 points. And not just points. winning goals, winning assists.
He and Larken are the leaders. The players love Kane. This season will be a run in the playoffs. Maybe a long run.

  2. The problem: The Atlantic division. Detroit is competing against the incumbent Stanley Cup champs in the Panthers, the offensively powerful Leafs, the reliable Bruins, the likely declining but still strong Lightning, and of course the desperate Senators and Sabres looking to get out of their own rebuilds. That's not considering the metropolitan wild card hunters like the Caps as well. It's going to be a tough entry barring a collapse of the Lightning or Bruins (which are both possible but shouldn't be bet on)

  3. He isn't on the board, but another younger defenseman who could find himself moving up is Albert Johansson. He's looked upon very favorably by players and staff alike in Grand Rapids

  4. Under the Exit section all of those players were awful defensively. Gost and Walman are like having a 4th forward on the ice. Fabbri and Sprong were liabilities in their own end. Perron has slowed down a ton the last couple years, basically gliding out there.

  5. Not even close to playoffs with that blueline and Yzerman will either scapegoat the coach or get canned himself.

Ottawa and Buffalo have better bluelines and approximate forward and goaltending talent. Of teams that made the playoffs last season, only the Caps and Islanders, neither who had a bad off season, look vulnerable and one of their spots will be filled by NJ

I don't give them much of a shot and it's Yzerman's fault for not getting things done and juicing the blueline after coming close to a playoff return last season.

  6. Should fire Lalonde now. He's not a good Coach. Larkin goes down and the entire Team falls off a cliff? That's on the Coach. The could have made the playoffs last season if they had beat the Caps in One of their two meetings at the end of the Season. Hell, if they could have managed to beat Columbus! Holl, Petry, and Chairat all need to go.

  7. They’ve been steadily improving year after year. They only missed the playoffs by LITERALLY a goal from a different game last season. Guarantee this is the year they will be back in. Barely, but they’ll make it in.

  8. I honestly don't think the points will really go up like that for the simple fact that a lot more teams are competitive now more than ever before! so those wins are moreso spread out.. points are spread out and it becomes a dog fight!.. besides Columbus.. ANYYY team in the East would've just went on a 3-4 game win-streak, EFFECTIVELY changed the standings in some way shape or form.. either giving with a playoff spot better seed, a fringe playoff team temporarily holding a playoff or a non playoff team all of sudden coming out of nowhere and is in the wild-card hunt.. all this was going on all the way until like 2 weeks to go in the season.. then the standings became a bit more defiant .. but any wats, that's WILD😼 though when you think about.. ,đŸ€”
I think points acquired to make the playoffs should be around the same..

    We'll see though..

  9. The Yzerplan got a shot in the arm last season with the addition of Debrincat. They should once again be a bubble playoff team, going after those last two wildcard spots. If they get to training camp with a couple million in cap space and their RFAs signed, they could be in a good position to "help" a cap strapped team and land a decent veteran player.

  10. It's not helping that the Wings play in the TOUGHEST division in the league. No excuse for not getting a wild card spot, though. It will only sharpen their iron even more with the expectations that come with that division. F the Sens and their goon crew.

  11. Okay Fellow Wings Fans, is it tome to start burning some drfat pics to offload a few bad contracts. I feel like as a Syatem, the prospects are strong on Defense, Goalie, and Center, but what i feel the wings are lacking is like one or two star wingers or impact wingers. Tarasenko and Kane are good stop gaps, but who is going to replace them by 2026? I feel like its time to let the prospects finish developing and go iut and sign guys that can help fill any gaps at any position. But i feel like to do that you need at least Copp, Chiarot, or (please god) holl gone. Im not saying do a LA Rams style F Dem Picks approach, but seriously make inquiries on whay it would take to dump at least one iffy contract.

  12. This is going to be a wild year in the Atlantic. It’s at a point where three teams that haven’t made the playoffs in awhile are all desperately trying to get back in. Patience has kind of run out in those three markets. We also know the leafs, bruins, panthers, and lightning are probably locks for the playoffs. That leaves those three teams fighting w Long Island and the capitals for that last spot.

  13. I would like to point out that holl while didn't play much was still at practice teaching the young guys, his off ice mentorship should be noticed

  14. Chiarot with Seider was brutal in the 22/23 season. When Walman got injured/fell off on the back end of the 23/24 season Chiarot was put with Seider and it was much better the second go around. Edvinsson and Petry down the stretch weren't awful so I believe that is the pairing they start with. The hope is Edvinsson gets moved to the top pair and Johansson can be a 2nd pair option – pushing Petry to his proper deployment of 3rd pair.

  15. Nobody can convince me that Detroit wouldn’t have been a more entertaining series than Washington was. This is the first year I’m actually a little worried.

  16. Thanks for this episode you’re the best!

The younger players will need to elevate themselves this season for a playoff chance.
I think Johanson has to be on the roster like Bergerren

    Also the veterans.

There’s some question marks for sure but LGRW!!!

  17. Not happy Griddy is gone. He was to have a monster season. Torts ruined an epic ending for this team last yr. ps I saw on NHL video game DET had the "highest-powered" offense last szn!! : ((

  18. Yzerman has (technically) built a team that each and every year has gotten better from a record standpoint. Here's the problem: from a tangible movement and growth the team really has not gotten as better as people like to think.

For one, for as good as yzerman's drafting has been (according to prospect pool rankings), just 3 players he has drafted have made the team, all of them being his first pick in their respective drafts. He has never went after the star/superstar players in free agency out of a fear of long term deals which is fine enough if you can prove you have those guys in house and as of yet Raymond is probably the only one that looks like a star in the making.

Further, my biggest fear is this team is bound to either take a step back this year and/or plateau at a slightly above 500 but still missing out on the playoffs record. And I'm sorry this will be his 6th year as a gm, if you haven't made the playoffs after 6 years of offseason moves to the point where you are basically responsible for the entire roster (no more bad contracts from previous gm), I have no reason to have any faith in you as a gm to get us to a Stanley cup, let alone just make the playoffs which is really not all that much of an achievement.

This year is a big year for yzerman. If the miss the playoffs again, fans are going to turn on him, despite right now them being very faithful (to a fault in a lot of cases).

  19. Kane, Tarasenko, DeBrincat and Petry have to maintain their production for the Wings to make the playoffs. It seems like a strange team makeup with some great young players but older players being essential to the team.
Shannon a great review of the team just across the river from me.

  20. As a Wings fan… I'm not all that concerned about my boys here. I think we should make the playoffs, especially now that our core players have had a taste of the playoff race (despite last season's collapse during the stretch run), but I don't think we're in must win territory quite yet. On Lalonde, I think he'll be on a little bit of a tighter leash, but I also don't think Stevie will make a coaching change mid-season without a replacement in mind, and promoting from within isn't a guarantee. But with that said, I don't think Lalonde has been bad or even mediocre, but I do wish he'd make a non-injury mid-period goalie change as needed, call a timeout after a bad stretch of play, and maybe show a little fire on the bench once in a while.

  21. Nice to hear the optimism! I’m not counting on anything, but I’m still excited. Let’s hope the team improves. But even if they do, even significantly, it doesn’t guarantee success. The other teams may improve even more, or really bad luck could strike. 😀 And you might need many more points to get that wild card spot this upcoming season.

  22. Debrincat was a little snake bit the second half of the year. He had good scoring chances and hit a lot of posts. Expect his shooting % to increase next year.

  23. My assumption for this year is that they don't perform quite as well as last year, as a couple of the younger players transition to the NHL, but that we will see the dividens in 2025-26

  24. Yzerman wont be pressured to overpay players. He proved that in Tampa and I'm sure its the right move regardless of criticism he will take as it strengthens his negotiating position moving forward.

  25. Wallinder and Soderblom won't see any time this year in Detroit. Don't be surprised if Nate Danielson makes his NHL debut this season though.
