Just Where Does New York Islanders GM Lou Lamoriello Rank Among New York Area GMs?

There has been controversy recently about where New York Islanders GM Lou Lamoriello fits in the rankings of New York area GMs in the four major team sports. We discuss where Lou belongs on this list and why.

Plus, when and how can the Isles get out of the NHL’s “muddy middle?” We have some ideas and plans for the best way for the team to do that.

And what can the Isles expect from Maxim Tsyplakov in his first season with the team and how quickly will he adjust to the NHL game as opposed to the KHL style of play?

All this and more on today’s Locked On NHL Podcast with Gil Martin.

  1. Based on the fact rags and nj are actual contenders while louzers run it back bunch stagnate in middling area every season i'd say louzer ranks 3 among ny area nhl teams. Old and fossilized is not what you want in a 21st century nhl gm. Louzer for his cap stupidity and hamstrung roster he put together belongs in bottom tier of nhl gm's. And these rankings depend on if arod plays a full season or not. They mean nothing until then.

  2. Wow Gil , if ever in my life have seen a loaded question, this has to be it, so leaving Lou out of this I Think Cashman is doing a wonderful job for the Yankees, thanks Gil, LGI !!!

  3. Good 🌄, Gil, how are you? WFAN's Sean Monash, ranked Lou Lamoriello #8 out of all The GM's in The NY Metropolitan Area just above Brian Cashman. Some of the trades Lamoriello made were not that bad, I just wish he'd let these kids he drafted would see what can do. It's not all bad; except for COVID. It would be nice if The Islanders could make it past The First Round in The Playoffs again. Maxim Tsyplakov got resigned he's a wild card. If The Islanders expect to get out of the middle, THEY NEED TO MAKE A MONSTER DEAL OR TWO THAT WILL FREE UP SOME CAP SPACE. Maxim Tsyplakov can not only put the puck in the net, but he's also not above going into the corner to get the puck. HAPPY 🎂, TIM WALLACE. Hear from you later, Gil, and LET'S GO ISLANDERS.

  4. best GM in New York in my opinion

Can’t deny islanders have given us glimpses of greatness, so it’s not crazy that Lou decided to give his players a chance to win and not wait for youth to develop

I also love that he is old school and does not show his cards to anyone

  5. Good morning team! I hope everyone had a great weekend. Gil, the man did have success in NJ, being a Stanley Cup winning GM. Hasn't had that same luck with the Islanders, but since then, has there been any NY championship teams? The Mets win 100+ games and get swept in the first round! I will NEVER live that down. For my answer, I would say Lou is in the middle of the pack. He's trying, I think. He did dig himself a hole which he needs to try to climb out of. Other than that, I don't have another opinion about it. Everyone, have a See you all again next time. Until then.. Let's Go Islanders!!

  6. his rank is trash he hasnt done anything to improve this team watch how we get smacked around by the rags and devils this season smh & possibly buffalo THEY ALL made improvements while we just run back the same flat tires

  7. Gm. Before you answer your question you need to ask how does the Isles ownership compare to other NY ownership groups. The answer is simple, last. The Isles have not been truly relevant in decades and in fact you have to be at least 50 years of age to remember when the Isles were a real competitor for the top prize. Lou is a fossil who has not guided a team to being competitive since his days in NJ. The Isles are the Jets of the NHL. The acquisition of Aaron Rogers is the only reason the Jets are above the Isles in my mind.

  8. the problems of today had to do with the Islanders losing John Tavarez for nothing. even though that was a long time ago the Islanders needed to spend assets to make up for losing JT that was not Lou's doing (JT walking). the biggest mistake Lou made was hiring Lane Lambert that set this team back before the Trotz era. Lane Lambert has to be one the worst coaches the Islanders ever hired and that says allot.

  9. I would give Nelson a two year deal. I don't think you can let him go right now. Lee and Pageau could go though. You're correct, that would free up a lot of salary. Thanks Gil!
