We have our first look at the KHL’s new OT rule during play 👀 Players can’t skate the puck back into their own half of the ice without risking a penalty.
my biggest question here is how the hell is it 4-0 in overtime?

The Chicago Blackhawks killed us with this strategy in regulation during the Parise/Suter era.
Can’t comfortably enter the offensive zone? Skate back to your own zone, drop puck to D, change lines, reattempt to enter. Can’t enter comfortably? Skate back to your zone, drop, wheel, oh look there’s Kane sitting wide open at our Blue line, don’t worry we’ll double cover him and leave Toews and Shaw wide open. Back of our net.
I don’t blame them for playing this way because they definitely had the roster talent to effectively wear teams down. But holy hell is it frustrating to watch from the opposing perspective, they were essentially playing keep-away for 3/4 of the game and they could burn us 50 different ways when we got too aggressive.

I like it. Too many OTs are just dodging the other team looking for an opening. As fun as it is to see that breakaway hit for a game winner, it’s fucking awful to watch 4:30 of slowly skating your D zone and switching out players every 40 seconds.

This appears to be a JHL game between Dinamo Moscow and Avto Ekaterinburg. So not KHL footage, this is under 20 hockey.
