Short Track Racing Highlights: Bowman Stadium Sportsman 100 (6/8/24)
The first 100 lapper of the season for the Sportsman division at #BowmanGrayStadium was a sight to see! The 19 car field put on a show for the 17,000 strong crowd with a lot of excitement and a very chaotic and debatable finish for stadium standards!
Race Summary:
The Sportsman 100 saw 2023 #BGS Sportsman Champion #31 Chase Robertson and Stadium Veteran #81 Zack Clifton on the front row! Clifton would take the early lead of the race. Lap 22 saw #15 T. Dawson spin #12 Justin Taylor while fighting for position to bring out the caution. Clifton would take the lead once again on the restart. Lap 42 saw a debris caution. On the restart #19 Michael Adams was able to slip into 2nd. On Lap 55 the #19 of Adams caught the #81 of Clifton and gave him the bumper coming out of turn 4 sending the race leader around! On the restart #19 Michael Adams would take the lead with #2 Amber Lynn and #31 of Chase Robertson in pursuit. Lap 73 saw yet another caution for debris. 10 Laps later on lap 83 #28 Nate Gregg was sent into the grass by #21 Jonathan Brown (subbing for an ill Tommy Neal) bringing out the caution once again. Lap 98 #15 T. Dawson had an engine let go in turn 1 just in front of the leaders! Race leader #19 Michael Adams hit a patch of oil and sent the back end of his car into the guardrail causing serious body damage! Despite his best efforts he couldn’t shake off the hanging parts and was black flagged surrendering the lead to #2 Amber Lynn who would eventually go on to win the race!
