Good article, you should read it but for those lazy, the five players are:
Podkolzin
Aman
DiGiuseppe
Juulsen
Silovs
I somewhat agree with the first 3 as there is a backlog of 3rd and 4th liners.
Juulsen imo will still be valuable where he’s at as a depth dman if injuries pop up regardless.
Silovs kinda makes sense. If he doesn’t establish as a backup canucks will need to aquire another vet goalie to backup demko
I would add Hoglander – he probably has a spot on opening roster but who he plays with is going to depend on if he can elevate his game. If he wants to play with Petey, he’s gonna have to drive play and rack up some points
mithtified
Outside of Silovs, the rest are bubble / 4th liners, not bad to see

My prediction is, PDG and Aman arenāt making the opening night roster. I think Van adds a forward via trade/waivers in camp. Ā
Podkolzin really has to have a good camp to make it as a 12/13 forward. I can see him flipped for a similar prospect, possibly on defence.Ā
Juulsen is the #7 defender, I could see Mark Friedman waived if someone like Wolanin/McWard has a good camp or if they add another defender via trade/waiver/pto. Perhaps a Travis Dermott reunion?
Silovs I feel like is going to start in Abby, but theyāll be creative about getting him NHL starts.Ā

Unfortunately for Podz, last season was his best shot to be a regular on the team out of training camp. They didn’t have expectations heading into last season, forward depth wasn’t as strong and he was gifted a spot on the Miller line to start training camp. It’s too bad he didn’t make the most of it. This year will be much tougher for him seeing as the team is now a contender heading into the season and a deeper forward core where he’s likely a 13th forward at best. Hopefully he can come out strong and blows it out of the water.
