    This guy doesn't understand LTIR rules. Any player that retires early or in injured can be put on LTIR. But those contracts actually factor into cap calculations. A team still has to be under the cap at the start of the season. Only then can a team then put a player on LTIR. So teams are effected when they try to get free agents since teams cannot put player contracts on LTIR until after the season starts. Its not free cap space. You still have to have that be part of the cap space. LTIR contracts is basically dead money, you can't do anything with it.

    When Las Vegas traded for Weber's LTIR contract, they expected to be able to use it but found they couldn't since 1) They had to be part of the cap total when the season cap was calculated. 2) You don't accrue cap space during the season if your under LTIR. Last season Montreal didn't put Price on LTIR. Vegas ended up trading Weber's contract to the Coyotes so they could reach the cap floor.

    Wouldn't have anything to do with putting the Penguins in a bad place, he could just retire if he couldn't go any further. For sure the discussion is about term based upon whether Dubas is going to go into a full rebuild, try to move contracts like Letang and Malkin at the trade deadline next year or not.

    I can't imagine there's a team that would actually want Reaves at least without big salary retention by Toronto.

    If Pitt doesn't trade Crosby they will just turn into the early 2010s Redwings. Holding onto the hope of playoffs but they have no chance of winning the cup. Trade the vets with 50% retained and they'll get 5 1sts as a minimum
