I think, despite the name, “Chaos Giraffe’s” neck has shrunk since his draft.

  2. BlueBeagle8

Why does Cody Hodgson look like an EA Sports create-a-player ๐Ÿ˜ญ

  3. Bea-Journaling

A surprising amount of players wound up on the Canucks at some point.

  4. eh_toque

Colin Wilson actually kinda looks like Zach Wilson the QB

Tough to see Beach on here though

  5. Probably not great for your draft position when the first line of your bio says your dad called you unmotivated.

    Poor Jared Staal.

  6. oof, Nikita Filatov. He was so good in the world juniors.

  7. bellerinho

For whatever reason, I have absolutely no recollection of David Toews ever playing for UND, but apparently he did for two years. What the hell

  8. Cheap_Calendar_501

Tough seeing the hype on Kyle Beach and hearing how good he couldโ€™ve been

  9. daveloper80

Jordan Eberle isn’t nearly as old as the rest of these guys. I cannot elaborate

  10. mephnick

Anyone else going through these and realizing how much better the rookie crops are these days?

Like you get your Juolevis and Filatovs still but I feel like the ability to nail down more sure bets has increased dramatically.

I was having a good day so it makes sense that id be reminded of my favorite team drafting Cody Golobeuf one pick before Roman Josi was taken by the Preds. Damn

  12. Karlsson at 71. Wow.

Still remember the Sens bringing Alfie out to announce the pick, in Ottawa, and the crowd reacting with quiet confusion. Followed by McGuire turning to the crowd to shout “He’s good!”

  13. haseks_adductor

wow karlsson at 71 is crazy. what a pick by the sens

  14. johnnylawrwb

Man, any time I see Cody Hodgson I think of the dude on the old icejerseys forums who was absolutely and inexplicably obsessed with him. Had so many Hodgson jerseys lol.

  15. WackHeisenBauer

Karlsson at 71 is absolutely ridiculous. But Iโ€™m not complaining haha

  16. Oscarmanken

My small hometown of Vetlanda had two people in this draft. So surreal too think about

  17. HEEEEEEEEYYYYYY JOOOSHH BAILEY

    OOH

    AHH

    I WANNA KNOOOOOOOOWWWW (OH)

    CAN YOU SCORE A GOAL?

  18. AustonDadthews

approximately 400 defencemen in the top 50 but no karlsson is tough

  19. corkyrooroo

Devils skipping over Jersey born Carlson always irked me. Especially because they drafted Tedenby, who was never going to be given the chance to play his game under Lou Lams. Ironically his best year was under Jacques Lemaire who just let the kids play.

  20. I enjoy seeing these to see the hidden gems or people who didn’t make it. But seeing Kyle Beach, I instantly felt a pit in my stomach. Fuck everyone in the organization who covered what happened to him up for so long and fuck Bettman for going soft as hell with the “punishment.”

  21. MooseMalloy

By my count, 9 of these guys played for or were in the Canuck system at some point.

  22. This draft is probably the beginning of my peak hockey nerd era. I was absolutely all in on this draft because the Leafs were picking 7th.

There are 2 things I really remember from this draft. The first was that I was SO in on Nikita Filatov being a super star. Like another Ovechkin. When the Leafs traded up from 7 to 5, I literally jumped out of my seat thinking we were getting Filatov, then I had to settle for convincing myself Luke Schenn was the next Adam Foote. Which looked nice for the first year.

The second was Mikhail Stefanovich. I think I may have read THIS magazine that had Stefanovich at 20 overall. Reading that scouting report on him, every single line is an excuse for him. He was barely a point per game in the Q. He had compete issues, he had consistency issues, both of which they attributed to home sickness in this article. The Leafs took Stefanovich in the 4th round at 98 and I loudly proclaimed that he was the best player they took. Back on ProSportsDaily. You could probably still find that take somewhere. Stefanovich played 4 games in the echl, 2 in the ahl, and no other games in the Toronto organization. He never scored more than 11 points in a season in the KHL or VHL. He put up some pretty good numbers in the Belarusian league from 2016-2019.

  23. cbcguy84

Roman Josi was a steal here man holy ๐Ÿ˜ณ

  24. Very Blue Jackets to pick the one guy in the top 12 that amounted to absolutely nothing

  25. SpringWinter2557

I wonder where Carlson would go today. Not in a redraft (where’s he’s 7th at very worst), but with 2024 scouting and standards and less bias against the USHL. Because he’s a RD with size who put up big offensive numbers. I’d think he’d go higher, but maybe top 10?

Also, I know goalies are voodoo, but Holtby wasn’t even top 100.

    Also, David Carle at 70….

  26. peachesgp

Weird that they have the wrong Belarusian flag on the player profile but the right one on the list.

  27. JacketsNest101

    Roman Josi then:

“He just has average size, which might scare you off a bit. He’s pretty good”.

    Roman Josi now:

“Borderline Hall of Fame level Dman. Consistently among the top players in the league at his position. “Pretty good” huh?

  28. magicmichael98

Everyone in this comment section has prolly been followed by Zach boychuck on Twitter

  29. mars_titties

I know this was a weak draft class because half these guys played for the Canucks

  30. codespyder

Zach โ€œEveryoneโ€™s First Twitter Followerโ€ Boychuk

  31. Me dilusionally thinking that Schenn is an old man and Josi is still young and in his prime whoops
