"Casey don't know wether to cry or wined his watch""..😄 With the Rule changes Minnesota would've had 100 interference penalties called on them today. 😵 The best Team ever, That Penguins Team would've won the Gold against any team in the Olympics. 92/93 was even better team, except for Dave Volek of Islanders in overtime ruined that back 2 back chance.😔

Paul Coffy must be the lucky defenseman in NHl history ,he played with some of the greatest Centers in NHL history ,Lemieux before that that bum call Gretzky ,then later a center name Yzerman Fedorv Lindos ,
what a joke this competition is compared to modern hockey. its so obvious how much better modern players are than “greats” from the 90s 80s and earlier decades. gretzky most overrated sportsman in history. the goalies are horrible.
The first Stanley Cup Final since 1964 to not feature either the Canadiens, Islanders, Flames, Oilers, Flyers or Bruins. Also, the last Cup Final to end before the month of June, first all-American Cup Final since 1981 (the last time the North Stars were in the Final), first Cup Final since 1982 not to feature either Alberta teams (Oilers and Flames) and first American team to win the Cup since 1983.
I miss the hockey from that era. Of course in the hindsight the fighting is not good. But seriously it's incredible to see how soft NHL has became now. European soccer is so much more intensive and tougher than NHL, and it has been so for like 10 years now. NHL players only gets smaller and smaller, lighter too for every year now. They had been killed if now they played on this game.
It pained me to add comment #67…66 comments just seemed right! BUT I remember watching this on SportsChannel America, before the NHL had a major TV contract, and being a 16 year old Pens fan in Caps-land wasn't easy…it got easier after this first Cup win and then the domination of the Caps began and 4 more Cups! MISS #66! There will NEVER BE ANOTHER
I watched the SportsChannel America broadcast and was really rooting for the Cinderella North Stars. Sad to think this was the closest Minnesota came to winning the Stanley Cup and the team would be gone two years later.
This was an exciting time for all hockey fans of my generation. The Habs run, the Islanders and then the Oilers. With a few odd years and a lucky Stanley cup taken by the Habs and then the Flames, now came the Penguins. Who didn't think that they wouldn't go for their own run? At least they became back-to-back winners and that is no easy feat. I honestly did not recall the chippiness and outright violent play as witnessed in this final. I suppose I was just used to it by then. It certainly wasn't a pretty style of hockey.
Again… It's insane how soft NHL has became now. No of the current NHL player had survived during that era with constant hooking, holding, slashing etc… Also players (outside goalies of course) now are so much lighter and has a lot less equipment along with ZERO obstructions, so no wonder that players now appears to be faster then. Just products by their time.

This, my friends, is hockey
Jim Paek! One of my favorite obscure Penguins.
Rest In Peace badger bob let’s go pens
That S
If only Minnesota won the Stanley cup
Lemieux is the goat here in 2021 and he has 2 cups as a player and 3 more as an owner I hope we can get another before the end of the Crosby era
The pens defense and stick checking is legit unrivaled
Jags was a rookie…
No Kneeing penalty called against Minnesota also refs not wearing helmets back then was dangerous
The game that killed the Minnesota North Stars
North Stars for life.
Shoutout to the Minnesota Fans for supporting the Penguins after the game and as they lift the cup

A costly stacked vet team versus a mostly young Stars team.
Last game without tenths of a second in the final minute of the period.

Mario beat Casey like a rented mule. haha

1991 game 5 please
I don't think people realize just how stacked this Penguins team was.
Mario, Coffey, Recchi, Francis, Jagr, Murphy, Trottier, Mullen, Bob Johnson.
That's 9 HOF members when 68 stop playing in 10 years and he gets in. LOL
