If I'm the wild, I'm aiming for a 10%-25% retention of Laine's contract. On the stuff going the other way, it has to be headlined by a guy like Gus going the other way, with Either Johansson or Gaudreau as a replacement for Laine. Also throw in a guy like Ryder Richie (newly drafted, so easily expendable) and a 2nd or 3rd draft pick. Might as well have smaller picks too.
I feel the Wild need to start moving out some of their prospects. That cupboard is huge and not all of them are going to make it. Lambos is a great example, even if he's great where does he fit with the depth in front of him?
Wild can't give up next years 1st, this team, this season is a Kirill injury away from a lottery pick… I agree the trade will happen AFTER the season starts as teams are then allowed to spend their LTIR money (Colorado)
I have figured it out. Need a 4 team trade….
Wild: send Spurgeon, Brodin, Foligno to Anaheim
Wild: send Gaudreau, Stramel, 2nd round pick in 2025 to Columbus
Anaheim: sends Zegras & 3rd round pick in 2025 to Washington
Anaheim: sends 1st round pick in 2025 to Minnesota
Anaheim: sends 3rd round pick in 2026 Columbus
Washington: sends Backstrom to Minnesota
Washington: sends Wilson & Mangiapane to Anaheim
Columbus: sends Laine to Minnesota
That was his draft
Freddy has a 15-team no-trade list and Spurgeon has a 10-team no-trade list. I would be shocked if Columbus wasn't on either of their lists. NoJo doesn't have a modified NTC, but still has to approve the trade which he won't.
Assuming Columbus isn't on their no-trade list, it would be better to get rid of Spurgeon because his cap hit would cancel out with Laine's and he's coming off hip and back surgery. I wouldn't give up Ohgren or Haight especially after Haight had a growth spurt and is now 6'2''. They don't need Heidt because they'll have Yurov, Ek, Rossi, Kumpulainen, and Khusnutdinov down the middle in a year or two.
He needs a set-up man and play-off time
Voracek was one
Laine was not unhappy in Winnipeg in general, he was unhappy with Blake Wheeler and Marc Scheifele if you believe the rumors. Wheeler and Scheifele were the stars at the time and were afraid that a young kid might outshine them. Many Jets fans want Laine back because he is an exceptional goal scorer who has not reached his peak so far. He had some rough times, his farther died unexpectedly, a lot a guy at this age has to stomach. If mentally stable, he can be a 50 goal scorer and he will improve the power play for sure. He will cost a first round pick at least, but he's worth it. The coming matchups will be interesting, if our fan favourite will wear a Wild jersey…
