Was surprised how little the Devils had to give up to get Markstrom. What a great move to land Pesce, and at a great contract.
Devils should be back near the top of the Metro with Carolina and the Rangers. I agree with the B grade for the GM. Good video.
Fitz has had another great offseason!
Aside from the palat signing (which was mainly a panic buy for losing out on Johnny G) and drafting Holtz who nobody thought he wouldn’t work out, fitz has done everything right since taking over for ray shero.
I would agree with most of your assessment, especially when it comes to the cost of the UFA's. This is what i think the Devils pairs will be and what I would do further if i'm Tom Fitzgerald.
On Defense most analyists say Siegenthaler goes as first pair. I disagree. Due to his injury woes last year and the concussion he took and his terrible play comnpared to the yesar prior, I would have Dillon with Hamilton as a first pair and put Siegs with Nemec on the third pair sheltering him. Otherwise i like the pairings as DILLON-HAMILTON, then HUGHES- PESCE, then SIEGENTHALER- NEMEC with Kovacevic , Mc Dermid as your 7th and 8th D-men. Casey I would keep in the AHL unless catastrophy occurred again on the d-side of the team
On the offensive side of things, i would look to trade for Laine, but since i am not hearing many rumors surrounding Laine with the Devils ( even though he would be a perfect fit), I will just go with these lines… 1st LINE: Bratt, Hughes,, Cotter ,,,2nd LINE: Mercer, Hirschier, Meier..3rd LINE: Palat, Haula, Noesen…4TH line: Tatar, Lazar,Halonen. Bastian would be the xtra forward.
People would think i'm absolutely crtazy to put Cotter on the top line, but he would provide some grit and protection for Hughes and would be the biggest guy on that line. He would also do the crashing along the boards and be the puck reteival guy for the other two. He does even have a little finesse to his game, so I would not be surprised to see him up high and not just a foutrth line guy. We shall see, but being a die-hard lifetime Devils fan, I certainly have a good pulse on the team and this is how i would construct the team.
