So you want a Michkov jersey. Here’s how to get the most accurate jawn.

Hey you friggin jabronis, I know you all want a Michkov jersey because we're all a bunch of degents. Being the giant jersey dork I am, I figured I'd post "where to get good jerseys" on here after seeing a few kinda rough ones. This post will only be concerning legitimate, authorized jerseys – no fakers here. Why am I posting this then? Because if you're gonna spend your hoagie money on a polyester shirt, you might as well do it right.

For Michkov specifically, he will never wear a "Michkov/39" adidas jersey. You should wait and get a Fanatics branded one. I know, Fanatics is a giant piece of shit company BUT for the first two years of them taking over, the "Premium" (read: Adidas "Authentic") and "Pro Authentic" jerseys are 1:1 with Adidas. Same knit, same materials, same everything. Just no shoulder dimples. "Breakaway" jerseys are still fuckin' dogshit and you should NEVER waste your money on them.

If you desperately want an Adidas Michkov jersey, that's between you and Bobby Clarke.

Flyers jersey customization QUIRKS AND FEATURES:
  1. The nameplate is made of twill, same as the numbers themselves. The Flyers are the only team to do this – everyone else either uses a matching material nameplate, or stitches the name directly to the jersey. If you see one with a mesh nameplate, it's wrong!

  2. The numbers are what is called "reverse kiss cut (RKC)" rather than "stacked" – that means that instead of putting the foreground color on top of the background, the middle is cut out to show the lower layer. This is really hard to explain via text, so here's some pics:

  • Stacked (the orange layer is on top of the black layer)
  • RKC – hard to see, but the black is on top of the white layer.

Why does this matter? RKC is significatly lighter and more flexible than stacked.

Now, if you've gotten this far and your eyes haven't rolled to the back of your head in boredom, or you just want the tl;dr

Here are the places you SHOULD and SHOULD NOT buy your jersey from.

SHOULD:

  • The Farg (pls be Wawa Center). They send it to the Flyers customizer and will be done 100% correct
  • Hockey Authentic – they're out of stock of everything but they actually give a shit.
  • Buy a blank from ebay or SportsK or BenHSports, get it customized by WFC/Vorhees Skate Zone.

SHOULD NOT:

  • CoolHockey. They don't do the nice RKC kits, and the twill they use is crazy stiff. They also have a habit of leaving the heat press on too long, sloppy stitching, and sometimes not even using twill nameplates. Sometimes they forget to stitch numbers down. Their Flyers font kinda sucks. Zero attention to detail.

  • NHL Shop/Fanatics/Lids: These are all the same company. You'll either get something that's stacked with a mesh nameplate, or they'll contract through Silver Crystal Sports (which is CoolHockey) and you'll get some wack stuff.

  • Dicks: Same problems as NHL Shop, plus really poor return QA so you might even get a fake.

OTHER:

"But OP, what about one of these independent customizers, like Liberty Bell Jerseys/etc?"

Most of these one-man shops you see on IG and Reddit either cut their own kits, or they order kits through Customize Sports (LBJ cuts his own or just refers people to WFC). Why would you spend $100+ to have an individual do it when WFC charges $70?

I'm not trying to be elitist with this, rather I am trying to make sure you aren't disappointed by wasting your money. Got questions? Drop 'em in the comments. Happy to help.

Fuck the Pens.

Addendum re: Fanatics branding, since that’s also confusing. There will be three tiers:

    – Tier 1: “Breakaway” – these suck. They’re the same as what’s out now, and they’re trash jerseys that you should not waste your money on.

    – Tier 2: “Premium” – these are the same quality as the Adidas Indonesian-made “Authentics,” but are being rebranded to be less misleading. Good for the average fan.

    – Tier 3: “Pro Authentic” – These are the exact same jerseys that the players would wear on the ice. They’re gonna be $425 MSRP, but are the highest quality you can buy. If you’re a casual hockey fan, no one would expect you to buy these. Fanatics is only introducing this option because there is a small subset of collectors who want the best of the best and Fanatics likes money.

  2. If you’re caring about accuracy to this degree you should also wait to get a Michkov jersey.

He won’t ever wear an Adidas jersey on the ice. Fanatics will supply the NHL jerseys starting this season.

So, for true accuracy, it’s going to need to be a Fanatics licensed jersey with customization from the listed sources.

Great write up. I enjoy seeing the creative takes you posted of the michkov jerseys.

To add, I almost always recommend going to the Cutting Edge Shop at the Voorhees Skate Zone instead of WFC although they both go to Philly Express. Better cs and handling there than WFC I find

  5. So many cool hockey jerseys popping up here recently. What you said is accurate, also their font seems off.

This is a good resource so people stop going to cool hockey for customization, especially because sending it to PX is cheaper.

I can’t wait to pay 470$ for a retail authentic pro michkov jersey.

Much simpler than trying to strip a preseason jersey form meigray tho.

Thanks for all the info! I want to change my home Atkinson jersey from last season into a Michkov. Should I strip it all the way down to a blank jersey before sending it in at Voorhees or should I leave the number 9’s on it since that will stay the same for michkov?

  8. Diamondback424

This is a great write up for jersey nerds for sure. I still like my $35 jerseys that look damn near authentic to the average layperson.

  9. Mandrewlevi

Make a Michkov/23 Adidas draft night jersey for true authenticity

thank you for this…as someone who hasn’t purchased a jersey since the Lindros/Recchi days, this helps me out tremendously. I knew the whole Adidas/Fanatics difference but that was about it. Also, thanks for the pics on the nameplate/numbering differences. Excellent write up!
