This Basic Mechanic Has Made Quinn Hughes’ Career…

Check out the full video inside Downhill Skating System 4 as part of the Quinn Hughes series when you sign up for Train 2.0+. Fresh off a Norris Trophy winning season, Quinn Hughes has made quite a career for himself and this one basic mechanic has helped him tremendously seperate himself as a top defender in the NHL. In this video, we explore the crucial head mechanics that distinguish two types of players:

Type One Players: Like Quinn Hughes, these players use a specific head mechanic that allows them to see their surroundings, make plays, and excel on the ice. For them, this head movement is instinctual and essential.

Type Two Players: These players do not use the head mechanic and, as a result, struggle to see the ice around them. However, with the right guidance, type two players can learn to adopt the type one player’s head movements and enhance their game.

In this video, we’ll show you exactly how Quinn Hughes utilizes his head during a punch turn and explain how you can incorporate this technique into your own play. If you’re a type two player, this is your chance to transition into a type one player!

  1. My biggest weakness is my shot. For some reason my shot just has no power. And Iโ€™m trying to apply all the Train 2.0 techniques. What can I do to have an elite wrist shot?

  2. Thank you for another great video!

Not turning your head during turns or playmaking seems like a strange concept to me, I started in hockey as a goalie so shoulder checks is a routine, normal, and required part of the game. When I started skating out, I always look where I want to go before the puck comes to me and more shoulder checks as I'm looking to make the next pass or play. I play mostly defense and shoulder checks are critical to understand the play options.
