The Penguins and all the “What Ifs…” surrounding the team!

The Pittsburgh Penguins have a lot of questions this year, including an all-important one: What if? Hunter and Patrick start the show with a big one as they combine the MCU and the Penguins – what if this team wins the Stanley Cup or what if they win the draft lottery? They take a side on that before moving on to the big four. What if they keep humming right along or what if the wheels finally come off for them? The two traded talking points and give their takes before closing the show with arguably the biggest question of them all…what if Tristan Jarry figures it out or what if this is just who he is?

  1. I'm less worried about the bottom six scoring goals and more worried about helping to hold leads and finish games. That being said, if they can contribute offensively, I actually think this team can be sneaky good. We still have crosby, the man is magic.

  2. The stat that gets overlooked is Jarry had more goals than some forwards and more shutouts than some had points, sad, just sad

  3. My thoughts on the Crosby contract situation…give him an eight year deal for 8.7 M. Yeah, he doesn't know how long he wants to play. This will give you the flexibility to assume he will, until he decides that he doesn't want to. Then, he can go on long-term IR, like so many others, to collect the rest of the money, which he has long since earned. He just came off of a 12 year, undervalued deal, only 8.7 when he could have asked for 10 to 12 M, and been worth every cent of it.
Even if he only plays two more seasons, those last six years, have been earned over the past 12. With the cap expanding, it's not going to hamstring the Pens to have Sid on their past his playing days, at 8.7.

  4. I can see Malkin being ok the first month or so. But i bet as the season wears on, he'll get worse. I hope the rumor is true, this is his last season. It's time to go. And no, Geno on wing would be worse. Too old and slow, plus, i dont want him bringing the puck out of their zone, his turnovers would get worse.

  5. As much as Pens fans will crap on Jarry, he was tied for the league lead with six shutouts, and could have had a seventh, if not for an injury which necessitated Hellberg to finish the game for him. If you are a fan of the "Quality Starts" stat, he had quality starts in 29 of his 48 starts, for a .604 QS% Ned was 16 of 33 for .485.
My hope, for both of them, is that bringing in Quinn to coach the D and the PP greatly decreases the defensive lapses…so many of which led to goals.
