Maybe if the habs were contenders in a year or two and there was only a year or two left to Kris Letang's contract and he's still able to put points on the board, then it would make sense to trade for him to try and reach the cup. Right now though? This is a terrible idea. If he really wanted to play in Montreal, he should have done so earlier in his career, when there were opportunities.

yah the only way this makes sense is a vet for vet swap. so savard or matheson. dont see why habs do it when theyre loaded with young dmen needing ice time and letang has longer contracts than both of them while being older. if pitt wants to do it. they need to add an unprotected 1st round pick, minimum.
F that. Montreal isn't a retirement home for local guys that want to finish out their career at home. After they avoided the team when they had any value. We need to trade defensemen away, not bring on a over aged washed up player.

Letang must hate Crosby right now for listening to him and staying in Pittsburgh. Knowing you will finish your career missing the playoffs for 7 straight years would be frustrating, though Letang is highly responsible for that also. Crosby should have just let the GM do his job that off season.
you have to factor in that chris has an untreatable condition where he is prone to strokes. as a person ages, the condition only becomes more chronic.

The only way this trade happens is if he gets traded for Savard, but I really dont see that happening as Savard is good to keep for defensive purposes, the Habs have power play guys already, Hutson comes to mind. There will be growing pains but I see him panning out really well.
