Circling Back on James van Riemsdyk, Kevin Shattenkirk: Could they be options for 2024-25 Bruins?

Deep into August, James van Riemsdyk and Kevin Shattenkirk remain unrestricted free agents. While they weren’t going to be highly coveted at this point in their careers, Locked on Boston Bruins host Ian McLaren wonders whether general manager Don Sweeney could circle back on the veterans once Jeremy Swayman is signed.

At 35, they won’t provide premium value, but the Bruins could use cheap, established veterans, and in the case of JvR, a guy who’s hungry for a Stanley Cup and who could push the younger players to live up to the moment.

Swayman is the domino that needs to fall in order for the cap space to be revealed, and the podcast ends with an update on his contract situation.
