  1. I commented on this before…this is Dubas MO….get a ton of players that are fringe players or cast offs of other teams….a plethora of players who are anywhere from 9 to 12th forwards or minor leaguers with hope of the 'competition' has players play above their level. It is a metric approach of 'data scientists'…..he did it in Toronto…..Toronto consistently had a horrendous bottom 6. Never competed against other teams well.
He also rarely did it with D, and when he did, did it ineffectively.
Pullijarvi is a fringe NHLers, but the 'moneyball' approach of taking high talent 'scrubs' is what makes him and Glass fascinating pick-ups and fills fans with 'hope'.
I'm going to go based on past behaviour being the best predictor of future results here….a bunch of fringe players who make up bottom 6 who accomplish not much.
Last year we were suppose to have a healthy competition that would raise the play of others…..it didn't.

  2. The accumulation of picks and bodies is also what he did in the first 2 years of when he was in Toronto….gave him trade capital….that isn't bad….I just don't have faith that he will make the right trades….he didn't in Toronto….failed to ever get a good D. I'm grateful we have Crosby…he will make players look better than they do…a la O'connor who is a third liner who will play first line minutes which is crazy….reminds me of Kunitz who was a 2nd liner at best, but was on the Olympic team for Canada

  3. I hate trades. I realize these guys are pros, and sometimes a trade works. But depens trade for the leftovers. Usually, they give up more than they get. Are we that bad at player development? I'm guessing so.

  4. Barring a trade or an injury, the bottom 6 is now set in stone:
    Beauvillier-Hayes-Glass
    Lizotte-Eller-Acciari
There will be absolutely no competition in camp. Maybe not Beauviller because you can waive him and "hide" most of his cap hit. But the other five would require even more dead money … to go along with Jack Johnson, Petry and Reilly Smith … to be on the cap if they don't have a spot on the big roster.

  5. Today is my birthday but a few years ago I found out I was born a week late so I instantly realized I was supposed to be born on Sid's bday

  6. I dont know if it is common for hockey podcasts to mostly ignore the Defense because it is less enticing to talk about, but I think Penguins real problems and potential problems lie w. the defense and possibly the goaltending. Ed
