[Translation] It must be said that last season, expectations were high with the acquisition of Pierre-Luc Dubois. The center ended up with just 40 points and was quickly traded to the Capitals for goaltender Darcy Kuemper in recent weeks.

“It was quite tricky. It didn’t work out well for him and it was a difficult season. I was still a little surprised by the trade because he had an eight-year contract. It was a really touchy deal. He probably put a lot of pressure on himself with his contract with a new organization. That can affect some players,” reflected Danault.

“For sure, it hurt the organization. We lost a lot of players [to get Dubois],” he added.

Far from shying away from this reality, Danault says he’s aware that the existing core could well implode if the team goes off the rails next season or still fails to win a playoff round for the first time since 2014.

According to a recent article in The Athletic, Danault himself could find himself at the center of trade rumors if things don’t evolve positively.

“My primary goal is always to win and I still believe in our chances, that’s for sure. We lacked toughness and we’ve taken steps to change that. We’ll take it one day at a time, we can’t control everything.

“That’s why I say that next season, it’s make or break,” noted the forward, who will be entering the fourth year of a six-year pact with Los Angeles.

I’m sure the boys up top are making sure the players don’t criticize the trade or front office too much, even when it’s honestly warranted right about now

We are nearly 2 months from the trade, I get that it hurt the team can we leave it alone. I’m tired of hearing it, the front office fucked up, I thought PLD would come around the 2nd season, however we will never know. If the team implodes Blake and Luc should be gone and trade everyone we can. We may waste QB in the process of that. I hope they made the right moves and push deeper into the playoffs, however without a top tier tender I don’t see it happening unless Kuemper ages like fine wine.
