Of all the Habs legends seen here, only the Roadrunner is still with us.
les Canadiens were a dynasty back in the day.not so much anymore
I sat beside The Rocket during Toe Blake Night. Apparently the first game he'd been to in years. I was shocked when, after seeing him at center ice during the ceremony, that 10 minutes later he sat beside me. 1st intermission he was swarmed in his seat by autograph seekers. He smiled and signed until the siren for the second period. He disappeared for the second intermission, no doubt for an interview. Waited 'till the 3rd to ask for his autograph. When The Canadiens scored, he sat there stoically. No clap. No outward emotion. He just sat there. I can only suppose that he missed playing so much, that if he wasn't in the game, it didn't mean anything to him. His legendary level of intensity on the ice left nothing after he was done. He left it all on The Ice. RIP Rocket.
Lots of Stanley's Cup with These guys after Lafleur nobody else.
Rocket deserves better than Celine
Jean Beliveau, 17 times his name on hockey's Holy Grail the Stanley cup. Henri Richard 11 times.
What a classy tribute by Celine Dion.
I met Maurice Richard in 1988 at Les Gallerie St. Bruno. You could feel the steel in his handshake! My father was overjoyed to meet his idol from his youth. My son was 2 at the time, and he was not impressed with The Rocket, thinking he was going to see a real rocket! Mr. Richard laughed, and held my son while my son cried, consoling him. I only wish I had a camera!
Another great Canadian hockey player (there are so many to choose from) is Hayley Wickenheiser. Hayley was a true leader on the ice and has carried it off now that she has retired. Research her!
If irony were a factor, the ultimate honor Maurice Richard received was that fact that Gordie Howe named his little ankle biter dog Rocket.
My captain oh my captain..
