There were times from 2020 on where every time Kevin Hayes and James van Riemsdyk were on the ice together near the end of close games, I just mentally started preparing myself for overtime. They were just abysmal defenders and yet someone they always got put out together like that.
I don't think any of us are truly prepared for what it's gonna be like if we spend more and more years going forward with a revolving carousel of uncertainty in net. LET ALONE if we were to do so in Michkov's prime. We got used to having Carter Hart as (for the most part) a certainty in net for a couple years here. (Do not misconstrue my words here: I'm speaking only of Hart's talent as a goaltender.)
Granted, Askarov isn't exactly a proven talent either compared to what we've currently got, but if he lives up to even HALF the potential he's credited with when talked about, he'd be worth AT LEAST a 1st rounder. I think they should pull the trigger as well if the asking price turns out to be stuff from our stockpile.
If the Flyers sacrifice long-term success just to make Sam fucking Ersson happy on the basis of "he deserves a shot" I'm gonna lose my shit. Yes, he deserves a shot, no, he doesn't deserve an EXCLUSIVE shot.
