tavares being ok giving up captaincy just proves how soft he is and why he was an awful captain. you think mark messier wendel clarke doug gilmour would be ok giving up the C? guy is soft and doesnt have the fire that separates good players from the great players

Next season likely won’t be a big change from last season, but 2025-26 could be really interesting. All things being equal, the big 3 (no longer 4) will in their primes, the D should improve with extra $ to go there, the #1 goaltender hopefully has been figured out and the young up and comers have up and come. There is also the factor of Berube instilling a new system and the team may have a challenge getting into the groove next year. So 2024-25…don’t count on much…but 2025-26, maybe? Also, the big question around Marner will continue to linger but either way, either he signs an extension or he leaves and the Leafs use the money they would have paid him to acquire other players. Start planning that parade route in July 2026 (lol).
No way Mathews should be captain. He can score but not captain material. He and Marner and Nylander come from the generation where everyone got trophys for participating and thats not how you learn and have the will to win. Tavares should keep the C

We dont know what went on behind closed doors, they are sure to have had meetings for everyone to get the story right and show a united front, JT is too classy to throw a hissy fit, and also his extension next year probably was a factor in JT being a 'team player'.
