  1. This team has to get out of the business of adding or resigning 34 year old players.
    Evans and Joey need to get paid next year. Given the Broberg offer, it’s going to cost a lot more than previously thought.

  2. The team is significantly better on paper than at the start of last season.

    Last off season we were talking about how the team might replace all the fourth line scoring that left town and hop in a healthy Burky or surging Matty might do it. Or maybe Kailer Yamamoto would be the next Daniel Sprong. There were no real improvements.

    This season, as bad as the contract terms might be, Stephenson and Montour are upgrades, especially from a scoring perspective, compared to Wennberg and Dumoulin.

    I think unlike last off season the short term needle has been moved, just probably not enough. The teams ahead of the Kraken in the Pacific made similar improvements.
