Honestly, Tavares has been such a class act about this, but I think he understands that this is his last year with the Leafs and either way Matthews would end up with it, so he just wanted to be the one to make it happen
Tavares could’ve went to 4 teams who went further in the playoffs than the Leafs did in 2019 or the Lightning who won the cup the year later. But he chose the Leafs. Tavares loves playing in Toronto and I think he should still be captain
I’d say he’s the worst captain in the league, sure he can score, but he doesn’t pass, he’s slow, he doesn’t know what a playoff point is. A true captain performs in any condition. Whereas Matthew’s takes a few games off because of a tummy ache
