St. Louis Blues throw offer sheets at Edmonton Oilers RFAs Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway as covered by Spoked Z on Judd’z Budz Ep 125.
Is this the work of Doug Armstrong standing up for his buddy Ken Holland?
Perhaps Alex Steen making a stand against the hiring of Stan Bowman?
Maybe it’s a classic tale of the “scorned ex-girlfriend” with Peter Chiarelli trying to get back at his former team?

As a Blues fan, I definitely think the $4.5 million a season to Broberg is high. It's a lot of money based on very little NHL experience. However, the Blues need to make changes on the blueline. Too many old & undersized d-men getting paid too much with no trade agreements. Bringing in a 23 year old who can be a top 4 is a good gamble. They have the cap space, it's only a 2 year deal, & there isn't a lot of defense prospects who will be NHL ready in the near future. Holloway would be another excellent addition to the bottom 6 forwards with hopes of becoming a top 6 guy. However, Broberg is the one with potentially the biggest impact. Armstrong made a shrewd, calculated move with these offer sheets. (Plus, screw Bowman. Screw him right in the ear.) I have been really surprised we didn't see more offer sheets when there was less certainty on how long the flat cap was expected to be in effect. They're great ways to find young talent without having to cough up all the assets a trade would require.
