yeah the second we signed Sprong I knew he was gone

    pick is Ottawa’s

EDIT: price is so low because Podkolzin is no longer waiver exempt, we would’ve lost him at the start of the season for free so at least we were able to get a draft pick

  2. RashfordMBE

Not mad he’s traded, I’m mad he’s going to Edmonton

  3. bahamatriangle

you have to be kidding me that he’s only worth a 4th… I’m so bummed.

Edited to add: and to Edmonton too makes this even worse.

  4. gangstarapmademe

I swear we have 3 good first round picks in the last 15 years

  5. seasonswither10

A lot of people thought he’d be on the 4th line for the Canucks this year. This one’s a head-scratcher for both teams

  6. ugh… SJ, ANH, Chi couldn’t match this weak sauce?? why the oilers!!

  7. This might be cope, but he must’ve requested a trade behind the scenes… right?

I don’t hate the return, but I hate how we traded him to Edmonton of all teams

  8. afterbirth_slime

I thought he was worth more than a 4th round pick to be honest

  9. mudermarshmallows

Yeah, not too shocked by this. He wasn’t working out and I doubt other teams would’ve offered much more. Wish things worked out differently.

  10. Against-The-Current

This will be a classic regretted trade for the Canucks…

  11. KoreanCanuck28

Going to assume this means the Oilers aren’t matching for Holloway

  12. endlesscosmichorror

Bit confused by this trade to be honest but still trust the process

  13. therocksays13

Another Benning special. His drafting acumen was so damn overrated.

  14. roboknee5000

I don’t know why people are surprised by the price. He had 2 points in 19 games last year. Emotionally, I don’t like the move. I really wanted him to succeed in Van. Practically speaking, it opens up more cap space and another roster spot. Also, does this mean the Oil are walking on both Holloway & Broberg?

  15. Kind of feel bad for the guy, the previous regime was so bad at developing players maybe a new team will help.

  16. bleedblue4

This feels a bit underwhelming. I’m sad he went to Edmonton.

  17. IRseriousCat-

Blues fan checking in.  What are your thoughts on him?

  18. He now joins Loui Eriksson in my “why the fuck do I own this guys jersey” collection

  19. stickinrink

The Canucks are trying to get ahead of losing him on waivers for nothing.

Odd they opted to re-sign him to a 2 year, $1 million contract before the end of the season if they didn’t want to keep him.

They must be clearing cap space for a move.

My heart doesn’t like this trade 🙁 but I get it… I wanted to him to succeed in Van but he’s only been a fringe NHL’er for us.

  21. Puravida1904

And just like that, all the Russians are gone

  22. 4848274748383827

I guess management thinks he won’t make the team and won’t make it past waivers

  23. This might be a sign that the Oilers aren’t going to match the Holloway offer sheet and they will take the 3rd round pick from St. Louis, flip a 4th for Podkolzin as their backup plan.

  24. julesieee

    Oh wow… So I guess it’s official. He’s a bust.

    That’s it. No more Russians.

  25. branduzzi

Don’t love it… and to Edmonton?

    Makes sense with Sprong though.

  26. NoticedGenie66

I get it, I just don’t like how things turned out at the NHL level for him. I still hold onto that hype from his first NHL season and the flashes he has shown. Unfortunately with our glut of wingers in similar positions in the depth chart, he probably had the most value combined with lowest likelihood of cracking our roster.

  27. JauntyGiraffe

Pod really got screwed by Russia. Those two years he spent stapled to the bench instead of developing really hurt his chances to make the club and we never saw the guy that captained the Russian World Junior team again

  28. I guess a 4th >>> losing him for nothing on waivers

  29. I was going to be mad about such a low return and Edmonton, but knowing he’d have to clear waivers that’s probably the best we’d get. No one would’ve paid more unless they were desperate, knowing they could pick him up for nothing in a few weeks.

Good bye Vasilya Podslovin, we’ll always have the good times 🥹

  30. PatchesTheGreat1

Always loved his effort but his time was ticking here.

Love the guy but sadly a big bust of a top 10 pick.

  31. shadownet97

Why to Edmonton? Were they the only team willing to offer the highest reasonable pick?

Hopefully this doesn’t help out Edmonton’s issues tbh. Fuck the Oilers.

  32. CicatrizTMV

Can’t say I immediately understand this trade but I was never super high on Pods. Still was hoping he’d play on our bottom line this year though.

Sucks it had to be Edmonton too. Would have preferred dealing him out of the division even if he’s not a high impact guy.

  33. PaperweightCoaster

Fanbases always overvalue their prospects. His value was the highest at the draft and considering he hasn’t done anything of value since, this is about right. It’s either this or lose him on waivers for nothing so this is a win. He’s not cracking this roster.

  34. dattroll123

he needs to clear waivers which means management has no confidence he would make the team, so they might as well get something back than lose him for nothing.

  35. 01000101010110

Putrid trade. Though it was a bad draft pick to start with.

95% of the time when players fall, it’s for a good reason.

  36. CSStrowbridge

A lot of people are upset that he went to Edmonton. However, if he plays as well there as he did here last season, then Edmonton will loss him to waivers when they have to send him down for cap reasons.

  37. Fullprice47

Part of the Jim Rutherford culture is “Don’t get too comfortable”

  38. Davies301

I was really hoping to see a breakout year from Pods but this tells me the coaching staff sees a limitation on his growth and don’t feel he’s going to fit long term. Still sucks to lose a young player for so little especially to a division rival that’s hurting with the offer sheets.

  39. necros911

I remember a month ago when I was saying this is his final shot at the team and got heckled. We have enough depth that showed there worth. Podz has flashes but too little too late

  40. EddyAteDynamite1

Still scratching my head on this with the timing. Why now? Yeah, he might not clear waivers, but why not wait till training camp and make a trade then? Maybe he’ll surprise like Hoggie last year. Just odd timing.

  41. Poised_Champion

Did the Canucks free up enough cap to sign either Barrie or Schultz?

  42. TheOtherSide999

I wanted Cole Caufield so bad from the 2019 draft. Every goal was a highlight reel before entering the draft…. Sigh… 😔

  43. Initial-Ad-5462

Oilers are desperate to get a cheap bottom-6 skater, and a 4th round pick is all we get?

Canucks management must really think Podz is a dud.
