In today’s video I break down the latest NHL drama: the St. Louis Blues have reportedly offer-sheeted Edmonton Oilers players Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway. In this video, we’ll dive into what this move means for both teams, the potential impact on the Oilers’ roster and salary cap situation. #oilers #blues #nhl

Can they sign and trade them?
Sign them both then trade Kulak, Ceci & put Kane on LTIR. The offer sheet pick compensations are a slap in the face when you consider where both players were drafted at & the time , cost etc of developing these players. Hey its just Doug Armstrong throwing a monkey wrench at Edmonton & Bowman just in order to deflect any criticism that would be otherwise coming his way because of his mismanagement of the Blues & their cap mistakes. On one hand Its dirty pool but smart at the same time to get something for next to nothing or hinder a western conference rival.😢
The offer sheet comes right after Kane refused to waive his no trade clause and to go on LTIR. Plus the amount offered forces Edmonton to put him on LTIR or lose a player possibly both, blues watching Edmonton media obviously. Broberg wanted out so bon voyage. Holloway will likely be tested on top line in place of RNH so that RNH can center 3rd line with pairings to give oilers a kill streak 3 lines
I’m happy for Broberg. He’s been getting the short end of stick. But him vs Kulack? Kulack all day everyday.
Kulak over Broberg.
Keep Holloway and Kulak, trade Ceci and Broberg
trade nurse LOL. tough spot
Why people keep thinking oilers can sign both broberg and holloway around 1.5 M. they had this coming though.
oilers need to move on from both players IMO. Oilers need to get out of caphell , not languish in it year after year. it would be a massive over payment for Broberg. Holloway is injury prone.
delusional take, broberg was the reason edmonton got defensive stability in the dallas series and pushed 7 games. Holloway didn’t effect the playoffs in anyway.
Id say broberg is worth about 1.5 a season, and 2.0 for Holloway.
Charelli getiting his revenge on the Oil.The Bowman dark cloud 😂.They cld have signed both guys for cheaper deals weeks prior and figure out their cap situation or make trades Ceci etc..
We gonna be welcoming jake neighbors back to Edmonton next sunmer then? Screw the blues lol
Austin’s back, back again
Let broberg go, hopefully they can fit in Holloway
If they hadn’t signed Perry and Josh Brown they wouldn’t be in this situation.
can we match and dump their salary in the minors?
Let both leave
that Nurse contract is such an albatross around their necks. Due to the situation, if push comes to shove, keep Holloway and let Broberg go. I think Broberg will be worth that (maybe) after doing one more year with Edmonton, but 4.5m now is highly risky. Also lets mention the fact that both players have actually signed those offer sheets – is that correct? They didn't have to – which makes me question their commitment to the Oilers. Many players like Brown, Henrique have sacrificed, hearing Draisatl will sacrifice a little to stay – all to try and win a Cup. I know they are just starting out and want to be secure but do they want to win a cup? No player is bigger than the team is the Man U saying, so get rid.
Holloway is not worth 2.29 for 2 years and Broberg certainly isn’t worth 4.58 for 2 years so the decision should be what can the organization do through their internal system or Free agency/Trade/PTO that gives them the best opportunity to win going forward. Focus on Leo now that there is certainty with these contracts.
Do not sign these overpays out of Spite, let them go.
Agreed Holloway+kulak stay
Ceci + broberg , GOOD LUCK in ya next team ..
But in the back of my mind id broberg worth taking a chance on ?
Congrats to Broberg on getting paid big.
I try to keep Holloway and let Broberg go. That's just too much money. Holloway could be let go too but I like him better at that cap and the depth would be nice to have in case of injuries.
So the Oilers F'dAFO you can't have your cake & eat it too, serves them right for not locking these 2 up earlier & they should have held off or not signed one or both Perry & Josh Brown or traded one or both of Ceci & Kulak & put Kane on LTIR.
The Blues know Edmonton is vulnerable while negotiating Drai. Snart move. I'm with you. Keep Holloway, let Broberg slide.
If Kane doesnt want to go on LTIR for the betterment of the team, trade him and Cece asap! Also, they need to force Nurse to waive his no trade clause, he got us into this mess. Oilers need to sign Hollywood n Broberg, these two are going to be good for the Oilers for many years.
Uh oh stinky
Let them both walk. Got Savoie and Lavoie on the farm. Our window is now! Upgrade at the trade deadline if need be. Get Drai signed now!
Sign both, before the season starts make some trades. I think that could work better than getting the picks.
As if I didn't have enough of a reason to dislike the Blues already
Let them both go; they'll do the same thing in 2 yrs. Make a trade with Montreal for D.
Okay, the way I see it, keep Holloway because the contract is reasonable, let Broberg go and develop with the Blues, if he turns into something, try to get him back. Absolute dick move by St. Louis and absolutely burns bridges. Also sucks because both are my favourite players and I was about to buy a Hollywood jersey 😭
Put nurse on ltir
Don't forget folks, if you match the offers, the next contracts offered to qualify them would have to be 10% more than what they are being paid. So for Broberg that would be almost 5m – and if you don't he walks as a UFA – no need for worry of an offer sheet. I like Broberg but a this point in his career for a 4.58M contract – nope – he hasn't earned it. St.Louis will rue the day they did this if he can't handle the 82 game grind. Holloway – his contract is nothing – we can match it
The money they gave Perry is what they now need for Holloway. Perry < Holloway 100%
Well the team took their time with these two players because we did not have a GM in place. I know teams don’t do offer sheets but I think this will be a thing that will grow legs in the future. Can’t keep Broberg at that money, but we sure can keep Holloway at that money. Signing Josh Brown, Corey Perry and Stetcher were all very confusing and waste of cap space to me. Shame we are going to lose Broberg.
I wonder what Vinnie thinks of this. Kind of lost his spot to Broberry.
Asleep at the wheel. Way to go oil management. The Broberg deal is ridiculous.
And how is compensation for a first round defenseman at 4.5 million only a second round draft choice?
Lots of folks saying Broberg hasn't earned that salary yet but that's not the point. Who will replace him? We got rid of Desharnais so that we could keep Broberg. His 2nd round pick isn't going to be a suitable replacement (probably). Skilled d-men are worth a lot, and maybe the offensive-minded fans and management of this team can't wrap their heads around it, but it's still a fact. I know for sure, the Oilers are not going to lose in the playoffs because they are missing Hollywood. They might if they're missing Broberg.
Wondering if someone can explain the RFA process to me. What prevented someone from offer sheeting McDavid way back and give him $16m x 7 out of his rookie season? Is there a window where offer sheets can’t be given for an RFA and teams have to get a deal in place before then? Surprising no one offer sheeted Nylander when he was going through his prolonged dispute with the Leafs.
