Columbus Trades Laine and a Draft Pick to Habs for Harris

This is a good deal for both teams, in my opinion. Laine wanted a change and Columbus frees up cap space in the deal.

  1. As long as Laine is not going to Pittsburgh, I am absolutely OK with this trade. Hopefully he can revitalize his career with the Canadiens.

  2. Great trade except for one thing. If Laine doesn't work out, and continues his downhill career trajectory, he will populate a Montreal right side that already includes Anderson and Gallagher. That would be a lot of miles on the odometer, for not much production. Get out the buyout calculators for next summer!

  3. Getting rid of #54 Jordan Harris to CBJ to a Second rnd pick and #92 Patrick Laine, kind of remind me of getting rid of #27 Alexander Romanov to CBJ which end up with #77 Kirby Dach.

  4. This is awesome we have so many your stars in the making it’s good to have the cap space for Sillinger and see what prospect wants to make the leap and prove themselves. I’m so happy we have gotten rid of some of the injury ridden places like boqvist and bean and now laine getting Monahan and I think Harris will be solid he was noticeable when they played Montreal so looking forward to this year coming it has to be better then last year if we can trade Elvis that would be great let Tarasov and greaves be the tandem and develop Gardner to be the guy in 3-5 years

  5. Kind of wild that anyone but Montreal wins this trade. Harris is a number 6 D and they got a 2nd round pick. Habs don’t care about cap hit here.

  6. If Laine recovers at all in the first half of 24-25, he becomes a trade piece at the deadline.

And with only 25-26 left on his contract after 24-25, he becomes more tradable.

And the second round pick MTL gets in 26 would likely be top ten since CLB will likely still be in the bottom quarter of the league.

Big question: Can Kent Hughes do MORE than run a great rebuild and actually build a true contender?

Same question as we have for Stevie Y really.

  7. Montreal has finally acquired a “pure goal scoring” player. It’s debatable that he may be the most offensive player on that roster now. I expect him to hit 30-40 goals easily.

  8. Montreal absolutely FLEECED Columbus haha, this deal is insane! It is a low-risk, high reward trade for Montreal and it could prove masterful. Went Wughes!!!!
