What if the Oilers don’t match…?

Matthew Iwanyk and Zach ‘Zachticum’ Kubusch explore what might happen if the Edmonton Oilers end up not matching the offer sheets of the St Louis Blues for Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway. They also share their thoughts on how it impacts the moves made by the team so far this offseason.

Would the Oilers have another trade set in place? Could they use the second and third round picks that’d they’d recieve for compensation to get another active player for the roster?

What do you think? How would not matching the offer sheets impact the moves made by Jeff Jackson and company?

  1. There is a possibility the moves made this weekend will be important in the contracts of Leon, Connor and Evan. In thr sharks trade, the coach knows who hes getting and the player knows the coach and his systems so it feels like this players going to slot into a good spot on the team and eat minutes, as a shut down defense it can only help the cause.

  2. I wanted Holloway here but always knew he could wind up getting sacrificed in one way or another. And it felt like broberg was never gonna make it onto the lineup here like he might have somewhere else. I don’t think either player really owes Edmonton anything at this point and both easily coulda been signed before the offer sheets happened. But obviously other factors are at play based on the cap situation, other moves made, and the Draisaitl contract dilemma. Here’s hoping both guys don’t get lost in the shuffle in St. Louis and continue to develop into solid players

  3. it is NOT only trading Jeff Skinner and Arvidson for Holloway and Broberg, as they traded Ceci for 'nothing'. So they have more capspace than the trade of Ski&Arv for Hol&Bro. They made cap space to acquire yet another STRONG defensemen, on top of Emberson. So at the end, if you go to the same cap-space as before, they will have two good defensemen for Ceci, situation will be much better.
