@St. Louis Blues

Well, there you have it…

Nhl news today – The edmonton oilers st louis blues offer sheet week has come to an end, with the decision on dylan holloway and philip broberg becoming official this morning. Pretty big edmonton oilers news and st louis blues news for that matter. It was an interesting situation with doug armstrong stan bowman and their respective front offices, but now we can begin to see how edmonton oilers trades and signings move them forward from this, and how broberg and holloway integrate themselves into the blues young core. 1. Really its a fail for everyone mostly Oilers though. Oilers could of traded Nurse for literally anything and put Kane on IR to clear up more than enough cap to keep these 2 plus so much more or use one of them as trade bait to get an already established D-man like Chychrun. Also fail for St.Louis, it might seem like a win but all Holloway and Broberg have right now is 'potential' both are still developing slowly and most likely wont have any real impact by the time their contracts are up again anyways.

  2. Its tough loss for the Oilers and we'll miss their speed, their heart, and their timely scoring.

Honestly though. They're not Bouchard. They're not Draisaitl. It wont be fun to replace good guys and contributors on the team but right now thats not a problem Edmonton has. Skinner came here. Arvidsson came here. Henrique stayed. The buzz in the NHL must be that the Oilers are in the mix and cup chasers can roll the dice.

We'll have some moves to make because everyone looks like a fit on paper and defencemen are precious commodities but its not a gut punch and its not a bleeding wound. Edmonton will manage.

Id say the Blues make the playoffs now but who are they gonna kick out of the wild card? LA? Maybe. Nashville? Never.

  3. I'm a Blues fan, and it's too early to give a final grade on the trade. However, I like the chances for the Blues. They got 2 former Round 1 picks for a bargain. The team is rebuilding and they can afford to take chances like this. If either player "hits", it was a great move. If not, the blues are only committed to 2 years.

I do know 1 thing. The GM playbook just changed forever. I'm guessing that every fan base is asking their team about their Restricted FAs.

  4. Ahh poor Soilers fans and dragsaddel hasn't signed yet so maybe he will jump ship also along with the other guy when his contract is up proves you can have the star players in deadmonton and still nobody wants to be there looks good on em

  5. Stings a bit to see Holloway go, but I'm happy to see him get his money, especially after watching him develop these past 2 years.
Broberg is a laughable overpayment for a 7th defenseman

  6. St. Louis turned a 2nd and a 3rd into two 1st round picks that already have (some) reliable NHL data and experience while their career is still ahead of them. Honestly fantastic work by their GM.

  7. As a Blues fan, I'm very happy with Armstorng's move here. The blue line needs some young blood. There are too many older, undersized d-men & too many no trade clauses. There aren't many defensemen prospects ready for NHL full-time roles. Kessel made great strides last season & I look forward to seeing how he progresses this season along with Tucker. However, they don't have as high a ceiling as Broberg. The Blues 1st round pick from this year, Jiricek, could become a very solid top 4 but he's not going to be ready for a few years. Yes, there is a bit of an overpay with the $4.5 million a year but it's only 2 years & the team has the cap. It's a much better use than bringing in some over 30 year old mid-tier veteran to eat minutes. Holloway is also a good pickup. St Louis has several promising forward prospects who will be cracking the lineup over the next few seasons so it's going to be fun seeing who Holloway fits in with. Having him on a line with Bolduc could be interesting. Holloway's speed with Bolduc's physicality might frustraate some defenders. All in all, it was great to see the Blues add some young, promising players who appear to be NHL ready. They've needed an acquisition like this for the past few seasons so brining in two 23 year-olds only having to give up a 2nd round pick, two 3rd rounds in different years, & a defenseman prospect Blues drafted in the 3rd round seems like a bargain. Now I just have my fingers crossed hoping both Holloway & Broberg meet expectations.

  8. I know i said it would be a disaster to lose them both but really we replaced them already, sad to see ceci go. Did'nt halloway have two shoulder injuries already? broberg can't hit at all. I liked halloway tho woulda been nice to keep him shoulda told his agent to shut up and sign with the oilers. the blues are'nt making the playoffs anytime soon. one thing is for sure the oilers/blues games just went up a notch in intensity. I agree with many comments here it would have sent wrong message to other players here.

  9. Vancouver fan chiming in to say we're very sad to lose Podkolzin… you're lucky to have him

  10. as a vancouver fan we will always have to get passed the oilers to win the cup, but i honestly think edmminton has the best chance next year at winning the cup, even if they knock out van ill still root for them to win the cup. they still have a great team its not much of a huge loss imp but i guess we will see soon

  11. Understandable move by Edmonton given their pending FAs.

Great move by StL adding to their young core only giving up a 2 and 2 3s.

  12. Players who sign offer sheets on teams that are well known to be exposed and vulnerable, tells you a lot more about them as people, than players. D**k move by both of these guys, and happy to see them gone.

These types of guys, are problematic, and STL just inherited all their baggage. Good riddance. Edmonton doesn't need either of them, or the problems they spring up.

  13. Oilers fan here. I am excited to see how Holloway and Broberg will develop in St louis, they both were looking good in the playoffs.

  14. Thank goodness. Had we matched either one, we’d be saying goodbye to either Bouchard or Draisaitl next summer. that would’ve been up to $7 million against the cap next year when we need it all for them

  15. 2-3 years we blues will be back in playoff contention. (Was close to making playoffs this season) we Just brought in two great young additions to the team. Will only get better from here

  16. As an Oiler fan it sucks BUT Broberg asked for a trade in December and he got offered a big contract so it is what it is. As for Hollaway he could have stayed but he signed the offer sheet so he did not want to be an Oiler IMO. Best of luck to them but I an still an Oiler faithful and believe in my team…GO OILERS!!! 💧

  17. Pretty fuckin dissapointed they didn't match Dylan. Also concerned about the defense getting downgraded.

  18. Broberg would be an overpay if we matched it and he wanted out anyways so let him go, gonna miss holloway though

  19. As a blues fan I like it. They probably wouldn't have spent the money so taking a gamble on players like them on short deals. There's no losing from the blues side. We usually don't have cap to throw around so it's nice that Doug was able to for once. Worst case they don't work out and you lose a 2nd and 2 thirds( including the prospect and 3rd for future consideration)

  20. In the end, they would have made money anywhere, they wete a lot closer to winning the Stanley Cup in Edmonton, IMO short sighted, but now they will get more TOI in a losing cause.😢

  21. Overall it just may have made BOTH teams better. So the whole thing became a sort of love letter by St. Louis: "See you in the playoffs!"

  22. All of us Oilers fans will be sad to see both Holloway and Broberg go, popular players in our fanbase and they were starting to look promising. But I think the front office have done the right thing here. We are not a team that can afford to have young, developing players on large contracts, no matter how talented they may be. We are in win now mode, the only way you're getting a contract that big in Edmonton right now is if you are an immediate impact player who can be relied upon in (hopefully) another cup run. We have to look at the bigger picture, right now the priority is getting Drai signed up and then McDavid and Bouch next year. In a nutshell, this is the best case outcome to a less than ideal situation.
