  1. Stan Bowman already destroying this team. Guy was a complete hack to make GM and Oilers will be a bottom feeder in 3 years….

  2. I see Leon taking off if the Oilers cant win a cup this upcoming season. Then of course Mcdavid will follow suit. The window is very small here so they need to do it this year or the dismantling begins.

  3. Armstrong looks like an Evil Genius with this move. Put this next to the word “fleeced” in Webster’s Dictionary.

  4. This allows the Oilers to acrue cap space up to the deadline and be large buyers. This isnt horrible.

  5. I still wish the Blues wouldn't have done the secondary trade. Props to the Blues organization for showing Broberg and Holloway they really wanted their services in St. Louis by doing so.

  6. Broberg and Holloway were on a team one game away from the cup with every reason to believe they’d be on a strong contender this year. They gave that up for some short term money on a middling team. Not serious about winning. What would their value have been after a cup win?

  7. Mcdavid injury till playoffs…

Miraculously heals for game number ahhh one! They become the greatest team in the world and BOOM Stanleys cups champs believe! 😊

  8. You gotta think Holloways agent told him to sign the offer sheet thinking Edmonton would match. He’s getting more money but probably a little bummed he’s likely not competing for another deep cup run. Broberg woulda been absolutely stupid not to sign.

  9. Oilers basically thought they will get a proven defenseman for 4.5M! Holloway would have been an amazing winger with Draisaitl but I guess you can't have it all. At least not this year.

  10. This was a brilliant move by Army. You can bet Steen had a lot to say about Broberg as he has spent some years scouting in Sweden. The Blues were even magnanimous in victory by sending a little extra.

  11. How about you tip your cap to Doug Armstrong and the Blues for playing by the rules and coming away with two solid players that will contribute this coming season.

  12. Oiler fan here….I'm ok with oiler not matching. To me it was money over team so good luck to them. Now with Cici gone and Kane either go LTIR or not, Oilers are cap compliant. Much need cap space needed and with the new guys coming in, oilers will have options. Also with contracts like Drai and Bouch after this season…the cap increase + oiler players seem to be more cup hungry than salary hungry this season…Something Holloway and Broberg were not it seems, so I'm good going into this season. And you never know what can happen during a season…..

  13. I would expect the Jeff Jackson clown show to drag you guys to work fairly often until he finally gets fired in June.

  14. If a player is signed to an offer sheet, is the team that currently holds their rights allowed to trade them and give the hypothetical new rights holders the opportunity to match?

  15. These two a missing out on a deep playoff team, and for Broberg, he's going to miss out on getting coached by Coffey.

Coffey transformed the D into an elite squad. Any defenseman should be interested in getting some one on one time with him.

  16. are all of CJ’s answers scripted why is this guy looking down every other second. So annoying if you are gonna do that boring stuff at least memorize your lines.

  17. “I’ll never forgive Grier for letting Edmonton off the hook so easily” the oilers literally didn’t sign either player. It’s completely disconnected and you’re just parroting what you read on Twitter 🙄

  18. The Oilers were in a damned if you do and damned if you don't situation here, there would have been criticism if they matched, just like there is criticism right now for them not matching. All this basically means is that Doug Armstrong did a good job in preying on a team in a vulnerable position. The Oilers gamble to go hunting in Free Agency and grind the kids contracts down later blew up in their face, simply put. But the cap-space is just too valuable in this league, the Oilers would be toast if they paid that much money for these kids to underperform with the big contracts they need to fit under the cap in the next few years.

  19. Both players had great AHL numbers with limited NHL success paired with limited ice time.
Both of these guys could have really high ceilings.
    Good job by the Blues.
Broberg had 2 other offers as well!

  20. And when St Louis and Edmonton positions are replaced expect offer sheets going the other way. The more common offer sheets become that will reduce trading partners.

  21. Not sure why the Blues threw in a 3rd round pick plus a random prospect for free. It's not like that's gonna do anything to make the Oilers think the offer sheets were ok…Lol

  22. Offer sheets haven’t been effective because they haven’t been used. League should be encouraging player movement not gumming up the works. Good work by Armstrong

  23. This feels eerily similar to the beginning of Calgary’s downfall. If Leon and/or McDavid dont sign, I think it all starts here.

  24. Offer sheets are a great tool, it is just GMs don't want to create "bad blood" with other teams. There are many teams with cap issues, offer sheets can make the situation even worse or force the team to give up on prospects. Either choice weakens the team and is a "win" for the team issuing the offer sheet.

  25. I dunno. Take the deal Edm was giving you, lift the cup and then enter FA. You’ll be worth WAY more with a ring than without. Or sign an offer sheet for a quick payday and miss out. They chose to miss out.

Personally I think they both, and their agents, undervalue their potentials.
