  1. I think Barry Trotz doesn’t change a thing. If I’m Askarov or his agent you need to take a step back and quite simply report to Milwaukee and dominate. I don’t fault the kid if he’s got some bad advice or wants to start but in this case he’s not dealing a strong hand. If you are the player do your job—dominate in net and make the decision a hard one on Trotz. Either way the club has options and assets…he’s not on the big club so this won’t be a distraction. Coach Taylor I’m sure will be prepared to handle this in a professional way!

  2. If the angel of reason visits Asky bedside this evening is there any going back?
Could he retract this and apologize for doing the big dumb? With a chance of staying in Milwaukee? A guy can dream, right?

  3. When I was in my 20’s, I quit my job because I “got my wittle feewings hurt”. At the time it felt justified, but I quickly realized how immature that was. It didn’t help that my daughter was an infant and my wife and daughter needed me to make better decisions. Asky is clearly not in that same position, but it might haunt him the way that decision haunted me. If it doesn’t, then his attitude and maturity might never be what a team wants out of one of their players. I do wish him the best though.

  4. Trotz didn't bring in Wedgewood to play in the AHL. Its obvious Trotz intends to keep Askarov in the AHL this season. If I'm Askarov and I've proven myself worthy of a backup role at the NHL level, then that's the role I'd demand. He could certainly play 25-30 games for a lot of teams in a backup role.

  5. It's all speculation, of course, but I highly doubt he hadn’t already requested a trade earlier this summer when Wedgewood was signed. The lack of movement likely pushed him to go public with his request. Nashville fans and media are understandably upset, as it diminishes his trade value. However, it’s important to consider that he could earn significantly more in Russia than in the AHL, so staying there longer doesn't make much sense for him. With Saros’ extension, there's no clear path for him to become the #1 goalie in Nashville. So, it’s not really "immature" for him to ask for a trade.

  6. My theory is that Askarov already told Barry he wanted a trade but I think he might have a deal with a KHL team lined up and they want an answer from him soon or theyre going to move on and so Askarov has to prod Barry for a move because he would rather stay in the NHL but is out of time. Trotz calling his bluff saying "we'll see you at camp"

  8. Question unrelated to subject matter discussed in this vlog: The Flyers are terminating Ryan Johansen's contract. Assuming Johansen files a grievance, how will Nashville be affected by any monetary agreement that Philly and Johansen come to and will Nashville be part of the negotiations as they are responsible for 50% of Johansen's contract?

  9. To put things in perspective Askarov is 31 years old when the contract of Saros ends. Bobrovsky is 35 years old and he just won the Stanley Cup. In addition Askarov could´ve been the starter during the last 2-4 years of Saros´ career.

  10. You don't want a Byram situation, where u take a team friendly deal, that gives away one yr of arbitration, only to see your spot blocked forever by Toews. You play out the season with a middling effort on the 3rd pair, just waiting to be traded. Saying he needs to beat Wedgewood is just lip service. Its better to know now & move on quickly. NSH will need cheap roster players, or picks for rentals & a futures return is inline w their contention goals.
