[MacIntyre] Canucks closing in on AHL replacement for Marko Torenius, promoted today to replace goaltending guru Ian Clark at NHL level. As reported by Dhaliwal, team is assessing goaltending depth but officially still expects Thatcher Demko to be ready for regular season.

Clark worked with Abby GM Ryan Johnson in [2022](https://theprovince.com/sports/hockey/nhl/vancouver-canucks/hire-notable-goalie-coach-marko-torenius) when Sanford left in creating the list of candidates for the AHL goalie coach job, so we can assume he’s doing the same now
“officially” still expects is good and all but I’d really like to not rush Demko back and if he is healthy lighten his workload a lot more
>>officially still expects
Sounds sketchy. I feel bad for Thatcher, he’s clearly elite and can carry this team far but goaltending is such a fickle position. All the required movements are unnatural.
Torenius was set to be the lone returner to the Abbotsford staff from the Colliton regime so officially starting next season the team will have an entirely new coaching staff.
I love demko, but it’s honestly a best case scenario capwise that silovs just steals the net this year. Edit : I just want to reiterate that I really love Thatcher Demko and absolutely believe he could win the Canucks a cup with enough offensive support.
I’m very pro-Ian Clark
But his style seems very hard driving and long hours
Maybe that’s not what Demko needs right now…
