Montreal Canadiens: Playoffs OR Draft Pick? NHL Teams SCARED Of Carey Price / Fans Want High Pick

What an interesting thing to make a video about. Today, we’re talking about the NHL’s proposed 24-team playoff system for the 2020 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs. With the way this idea is proposed, it would include the Montreal Canadiens in the playoffs, much to the dismay of other NHL teams who wouldn’t want to face a rested Carey Price. However, this idea has apparently been presented with dismay from Habs fans as well, who would much rather see their team compete for the Alexis Lafrenière / Quinton Byfield / Tim Stützle / Lucas Raymond / Marco Rossi sweepstakes, in the form of the draft lottery for the 2020 NHL Entry Draft.

The draft is stacked with guys like Alexis Lafrenière at the top, with Quinton Byfield, Tim Stützle, Lucas Raymond, Alexander Holtz, Jamie Drysdale, Marco Rossi, Cole Perfetti, Jake Sanderson, and Yaroslav Askarov rounding out the top 10. The rest of the draft has a ton of great talent as well, like Anton Lundell, Kaiden Guhle, Dawson Mercer, Braden Schneider, Dylan Holloway, Hendrix Lapierre, Connor Zary, Justin Barron, Jack Quinn, John-Jason Peterka, William Wallinder, Rodion Amirov, Jacob Perreault, Seth Jarvis, Ty Smilanic, Jeremie Poirer, Noel Gunler, Mavrik Bourque, Lukas Reichel, Tyler Kleven, Ridly Greig, Justin Sourdif, Shakir Mukhamadullin, Jake Neighbours, Luke Tuch, Helge Grans, Jan Mysak, Michael Benning, and Antonio Stranges.

The current NHL Draft Lottery odds, go in order as the Detroit Red Wings, Ottawa Senators, San Jose Sharks (Senators), Los Angeles Kings, Anaheim Ducks, New Jersey Devils, Buffalo Sabres, Montreal Canadiens, Chicago Blackhawks, Arizona Coyotes (Devils), Minnesota Wild, Winnipeg Jets, New York Rangers, Florida Panthers, Columbus Blue Jackets, Calgary Flames, Vancouver Canucks (Devils), Nashville Predators, Toronto Maple Leafs (Hurricanes), Edmonton Oilers, New York Islanders (Senators), Dallas Stars, Carolina Hurricanes (Rangers), Pittsburgh Penguins (Wild), Philadelphia Flyers, Tampa Bay Lightning (Sharks), Colorado Avalanche, Vegas Golden Knights, Washington Capitals, St. Louis Blues, and Boston Bruins (Ducks).

  1. If they do the first 12 teams per each converence are they gonna do teams 1 vs 12, 2,vs 11, 3 vs 10, 4,vs 9, 5 vs 8, 6 vs 7 ? If so in the West St.Louis is first and Chicago is the 12th seed. Would set up a playoff rivalry matchup between St.Louis vs Chicago. Same thing for the East with Boston being 1st and Montreal being the 12th team. So I think they NHL wants to those teams in because it could create a big rivalry, maybe a bigtime upset, they want people talking about the NHL again and I think it would be fun to see those series take place.

  2. Go for the Playoffs! I have a weir instinct that Montreal would win the Cup this year, is it? At leat play Playoffs for free! Not win, no big deal. Looking forward to a better, different team next year! As for Lafrenier, destiny will prevail!

  3. Hey Who knows what Jesus Price could do in the playoffs? Eliot is absolutely right… look at what St louis did with a hot Goaltender 😉

  4. Idk why Pittsburgh is bitching about Carey Price when they have a rested Sidney Crosby and a rested Malkin…but I’ll be okay with either situation for Montreal (playoffs or draft). But if the Habs are in the playoffs, you bet your ass I’m going all in and cheering them on!

  5. Didn’t earn a playoff spot. Need the pick more. If playoffs had been earned then ya that’s what they been striving for. Need the pick, need!

  6. I want the playoffs for Max Domi and Nick Suzuki. I also want the 8th pick though as Rossi or Perfetti would be beautiful in Montreal. Habs never really stood a chance at Lafreniere Lafreniere tbh

  7. So basically you are saying the habs could be in the playoffs and have a legitimate shot at winning the cup and people don’t want it? To get a slightly better draft rank? Common now this is nuts. Of course the playoffs are better!

  8. Hope les Canadiens de Montreal will actually do well in the playoffs. As long as I still get my 8 overall pick with it I’m happy. Go Habs Go

  9. I think price would be really highly motivated but i think that playoffs would just give bergevin an excuse to stick around, until that idiot is fired the habs will never be good.

  10. If the Habs win the preliminary round, they have to go on a run. I don’t want them wasting a chance at Lafreniere because of a bizarre scenario. It’s either playoff run, or lose round 1. No in between

  11. Honestly we trade most of our assets at the trade deadline because the playoffs did not seemed realistic for this season. In my mind the team right now is not good enough to beat teams like Pittsburgh or Toronto. Also because of his type 1 diabetes, Domi could potentially not being part of the playoffs. So again I say let's go get a nice top 10 prospect and get ready for next season.

  12. Draft pick please anyone who thinks differently likes instant reward ….. look ahead a top 10 draft pick would go way further then a second , third round elimination

  13. i just wanna mention something here.. Yes carey price is able to steal games but can we talk about players like crosby? Mackinnon? Ovi? Malkin? all of these players can steeeeal games by themselves and they are now complaining about carey price stealing games? Well, this is not fair for Montreal.. because no one is complaining about every other superstar that nhl's teams have.. Cause we all know that Carey is the only really good player in this roster that can make a difference.. let me know your opinion on this point plz

  14. Do I think Montreal will go to the stanley cup final? Not really. But then again look at how well Montreal did before Drouin and Byron got injured. At the beginning of the season they were an excellent team! And I understand that the draft this year will be amazing, but look at teams like NJ, they have gotten so many high quality draft picks in the past and still remain one of the worst teams in the NHL. I understand there are players like Matthews who can make a difference, but quite frankly I believe there are major flaws in Montreal's drafting criteria and helping them develop. Anyways I'm curious to see what will happen.

  15. This talk about Pitt or whoever is worried about a rested Carey Price is a load of stinking you know what. Sid & Geno are worried about Price? Not likely. So all us Habs fans need not worry about wasting a good pick, they have no chance, so Montreal chill please.

  16. I don’t care how slim of a chance it is that we win the cup, if there is a chance that we can win the cup then I want it. And I truly believe with the wall known as Carey price, the leadership of Shea Weber, and all of the stars that couldn’t play through the season because of injury, we could win. And even if we don’t get a good pick we already have atleast 3 upcoming stars in Nick Suzuki, Cole Canfield, and Jesperi Kotkaniemi. And not even talking about how even in the late rounds Bergevin has drafted wonderfully with vedjemo and primeau, we have a future and I think giving the young stars a taste of the playoffs would benefit them and be the way to go.

  17. I can't wait to see what the habs can do against the pens in a best of 3 or 5…..and a potential path through the leafs is very appealing, as i have been wishing for such a series since 79…plus we will have Romanov and a healthy lineup…sounds fun coming outta virus hell

  18. Montreal already has a very good prospect pool, I’d prefer the playoff. And maybe the nhl will change the first round formula and give the first overall to the last team, the second overall to the 30th team, etc.

  19. Great vid. I think you gotta be in it to win it! I agree with you, we'll probably get a decent player even if we draft later in the round (here's looking at Quinn and Holloway). I kinda think the playoff experience for the players outweighs getting a top 10 pick this season. And heck, if they actually make a good run of it then even better! The team is already close to being a playoff team in my opinion, so yeah I think the experience would do them good.

  20. Playoffs would be better than more draft picks since they have lots already and may in fact be penalized because they have too many players under contract.

  21. play offs over draft pic imo, also nhl needs to increase the playoff size going forward, something they are against for some reason, i don't understand how anyone could favour a long drawn out season with little change placement with players just playing to not get hurt over a tournament where every game matters.

  22. DRAFT PICK. It's a low probability of Lafrenière, but it's worth much more than these fake playoffs.

  23. Absolutely draft picks we at least if only draft at 8 can either get lafernaire byfield holtz rosy Raymond and more elite prospects

  24. As a habs fan I would love nothing more than to see play habs playoff hockey. The problem is that if we do mak a push in the playoffs and our draft pick gets pushed further down its kind of sour. Because normally we shouldn't nor do we have the team to be in the playoffs and now do to this we might get a what could of been a top 10 draft pick be turned to a mid round or even late round pick.

  25. Maybe all the 24 NHL teams that qualify for the Stanley Cup should probably play a few friendly games to see what happens cause Covid can strike again.

  26. Lock it down. Do the draft . Put all the teams logo in a machine the last team picked gets the first pick

  27. Playoffs over draft pick, this year's draft is the perfect one for this situation. The talent is so deep that even at the end of the first round we could get a great player.

  28. You only get so many chances in the playoffs with Carey Price as your goalie so let’s take every opportunity we’re given. We’re going to miss him when he retires, let’s not take him for granted

  29. It doesn't matter that much, but as an EFL-FSL speaker, we just say "Canadians." The only time I say "Canadiens" is in the presence of Quebecois
